  1. I love seeing these, but I wish they were healthier. Unfortunately, healthy and delicious just don’t belong in the same sentence when it comes to Christmas treats. I think for this season, delicious will probably win out.

    • This is really hard for my husband. He had 4 stents put in recently and has had to completely change his diet, no cookies. He is being a good sport about it though. I will be making many cookie trays to give away for less temptation.

  2. This is the last thing I need! But seriously – thank you for posting this. Those melted snowmen melt my heart. All the recipes look too good! Enjoy the holidays!

    • I saw them on your post, they look delicious! I have everything done for Christmas except cookies. I have 3 kinds so far. I am making one kind a day. There will be a lot of cookie trays this year!

      • And then next year, more people will want them or show up! My father asked my mom to “make a plate” for him to take in for each of the bachelors where he worked. And one bachelor, an older guy, we kind of adopted for several years when he came to dinner every Tuesday night, 52 weeks a year. He only stopped when my father left. Then he used to call my mom every Friday from work – he didn’t have a phone at home and this was probably before cellphones.

      • Bob was a nice older guy, maybe even older than my dad. After my dad left, Bob decided it wasn’t proper to still come to dinner, so he called her every Friday from work (he didn’t have a home phone). He wanted to know how we were doing.

      • What a shame he didn’t get to see his family one last time. Even stranger is that the family didn’t do anything about him not showing up. And one more strange thing is that nobody reported an odor, that’s usually how they find people.

      • My mom and I thought it was strange too, so my mom thought maybe it was to be a surprise visit, but you’d think they exchanged Christmas cards maybe? He didn’t have a phone, nor cell phone, so they couldn’t call him. After Bob retired, he called my mom every Friday afternoon from a restaurant phone. Just a 15-minute call, but he continued that call he formerly made from work. That IS how they knew – the odor. He was sleeping, had a heart attack in bed is what the condo manager said. She also told me that he turned the heat down really low (maybe to save money?) He was discovered in early April when it got warmer. I remember my mom and I decided to go to the condo. It was not far, the next city over. I knocked on the door, no response. My mom said “drive around the complex and see if they have a management office” so I did, parked and I went in as I was a woman through a window. I told her we were inquiring if Bob came back from Australia – we thought he was born/raised there and decided to just stay there. He had no family here. He had never married, had kids, etc. She told me the story and I was shocked. I came outside and got in the car and said to my mom “you’re never going to believe this.” We always had the local newspaper and there was nothing in it about the discovery of a body, even without naming him. My mom always read the paper cover to cover. Just terrible – what a way to end your life.

  3. I love these yearly reposts, Diane, and I can’t believe it’s that time of the year already. It’s not part of the repost but I tried your peanut brittle recipe one year during the holidays and they turned out great!

  4. I’ve seen most of your cookie recipes (and saved them in my “In Diane’s Kitchen” folder 😉). My favourite is still your Christmas Pretzel Hugs (it’s just so pretty). Happy baking Diane!!
