My mother used to make something like this when I was growing up. I had forgotten all about it until I saw your post. I’ll have to ask her about her recipe and compare. 🙂

It turns out that it’s almost exactly like yours! She says she didn’t use a whole onion, because my father doesn’t like onion very much, but that’s the only major difference. How funny is that?

It used to be a staple around my home (minus the celery and onions)! Really good! Just add soy sauce!
