Did You Know – Sweet Potatoes

Did you know that you can freeze baked Sweet Potatoes? When I get a good price on sweet potatoes, I like to buy a bag of them.

Wash them, pierce them and place them on a foil covered baking sheet that is sprayed with cooking oil.

Bake them in a preheated 375º oven for

1 hour or more until they are tender

when you pierce them with a fork.

Remove them from the oven and

let them cool completely on

the baking sheet.

Once completely cool, do not remove the

skin and wrap each sweet potato in foil.

Place the foil wrapped sweet potatoes in freezer bags and freeze. They should keep for up to 12 months but mine are gone way before that.

When I am hungry for a sweet potato or I want to make a sweet potato pie etc. I remove how many I need, place them still wrapped in foil on a plate and refrigerate for up to two days. Do not microwave them to thaw.

Once thawed, remove the foil and heat in the microwave until warm. You can also place them in the oven at 350º for about 30 minutes to warm, then enjoy!

  1. What a clever way to enjoy sweet potatoes any time! Thank you so much for these tips! That sweet potato on top looks good enough to crawl into the computer and take a bite!!

    • You must seal them in foil first to prevent freezer burn and then a freezer bag. I have a vac seal too but since the sweet potato is cooked I wouldn’t be comfortable using it. Thank you and enjoy the rest of your weekend💕

      • Since my comment, I’ve been thinking about removing the cooked inside, mash and then vac seal. I may give that a try next time I have a bunch of sweet potatoes.

  2. No, did not know this! We never buy sweet potatoes in bulk, but for some reason there’s always one or two left (that I later need to throw away) … but now I know what to do with them instead of wasting!

  3. I didn’t know that but I know they are good for you, so that is handy if you can freeze them and pop them in the microwave and have an instant meal (or side dish).
