I think I’d probably skip the cola – would a beer work as a substitute?
Absolutely you can put beer in the recipe instead of soda. Beer will give it a rich earthy flavor and help to tenderize the meat.
Yum!
Thank you Betty
I’ve been doing a lot of slow cooking recently. Something satisfying and sumptuous about the way it tastes. The hubby likes to use pop too and in his case, it’s a can of root beer. I bet you recipe goes well with a soft taco too!
Beer is another one great for slow cooking. I even make a simple beer bread but that goes in the oven.
Sounds good. I marinated a roast in white vinegar for a day before cooking in a slow cooker and had it turn out so tender. The cola must serve in the say way-breaking down the protein.
Yes it did make the meat tender. Could you taste the vinegar or did you rinse it before cooking?
I loved the taste the vinegar left. It mixed well with the herbs and veggies I added to it. It wasn’t a strong vinegar taste. It was like when I used to marinate roasts in wine.
I love vinegar too, especially white vinegar. Thank you for sharing that!
Lookd easy.
Yes it is very easy and yummy too!
Yes, you are determined to have me cook by posting this easy recipe from Susan – it looks good and spicy too.
It was very good and not spicy at all and definitely easy!
I thought it looked easy and good (and I was thinking spicy from the BBQ sauce you added).
Oh yes and I love Sweet Baby Rays BBQ sauce. I wish I could copycat that one. Maybe when I have nothing else to do. 🤣
Yes, in your “spare time”. 🙂 I just Googled and there are a few copycat recipes out there!
Ahhhh I will have to google and see!
I was going to send a link, then there were three (the Southern one looked the best) – go for it and post about it as it’s soon rib-cookin’ time!
I make ribs all year long and guess how? In my slow cooker! 🤣
Really? Wow – I assumed you made them on a grill only. My slow cooker needs to be revitalized! Right now I have ants scurrying around the countertop, so I’m debating if I should take a chance and make anything or stand there and guard it so there is no extra “meat” finds its way into the slow cooker. 🙂
https://wp.me/p7LF0S-gM Check out how easy it is. I think this was my first post when I started in Feb. 2017. It could use an update. 🤣
Okay, I admit it looks easy. I have zero seasonings around this house. My mom’s were old and I asked Marge if she wanted them and gave them to her. I have my revolving spice rack, but those are as old as the spice rack. My mom kept it for show and used her own. I have to expand my horizons with the slow cooker. You know I bought all the spiral-bound cookbooks for it when I got it … they have dinners, desserts. lots of soups/chilis. I WAS supposed to do all this when I retired.
Plenty of time to get started! I sound like a slave driver! Haha
Well, I keep saying I’ll do things in the Winter, then don’t get anything done and now I’ve jammed myself up for Summer. The cookbooks have a lot of soups/stews which all looked good. Desserts too.
I do love cookbooks, it seems like I have to adapt so many recipes on line and cookbook recipes usually don’t need much adapting. You will find a day to cook.
I’ve been seizing the day to get out if it is good weather … they said five days in a row of good weather, but yesterday rained ’til noon and tomorrow it will rain at noon, now Tuesday and Wednesday are raining. Maybe a rainy Memorial Day too … maybe I could work in the house. I liked the cookbooks as they are all spiral bound so they lay flat to cook, that is if you decide to use them.
Most of my cookbooks are not spiral bound so what I do is take a picture of the recipe with my iPad and use it when I make the recipe.
That is a good idea – you are smart. I don’t have an iPad or tablet. I bought all the crockpot cookbooks that were spiral-bound in case they didn’t carry them later as many of them were old cookbooks and I figured Amazon may not get more.
The older cookbooks are the best!
Yes, the other ones are more about nutrition and cutting calories probably – no more fun stuff.
I’m so glad you tried this recipe and liked it! It’s one of my family’s favourites 😊
It was very good, thank you Susan!
Looks so delicious!
Thank you so much Linda!
I love this too!! I think my son would love this. I will have to make this for him. In Texas I see a few people add Dr. Pepper!
Beer too but I bet your son will love to pour soda in!
Definitely trying this one. I not so long ago did beef in pineapple juice. It was amazing but I lost the recipe. 😁
That sounds so good if only my husband liked pineapple! 😩
I’ve never done it with beer only Brotz, but I’ll have to try that!
I make beer bread too, such a simple recipe.
I have tried bread a few times… to a sad and embarrassing fail. My version of a superhero is a woman who can make her own sourdough bread and turn her own butter. I only wish! I aspire to be her! ✨💞
Want to have some fun? Buy some heavy whipping cream, pour it into a Mason Jar or a tall clear glass container that seals tightly. I used my quart Mason Jar, filled it up about 3/4 with the cream and took turns with the grandkids shaking the jar up and down as hard as they wanted until it magically turns to butter. The more that participates with shaking, the easier it is on your arms. After 5 minutes it will start to thicken and about 15-30 minutes the butter separates from the liquid. You will know exactly when that happens because it seems like you are shaking a while then bam, it’s butter. You can add salt to the liquid before you shake the jar if you want. The liquid that separates from the butter is buttermilk. Use it for cooking or drinking.
Thank you!
Oh wow that looks gooooooooooooooooood!
Thank you Jinjer!
What chili sauce do you use?
Heinz Chili Sauce is our favorite.
Thanks! I’ll look for it.
You’re welcome!
I didn’t know that you can do this with beef!
You would never know there is cola in there.
