Did You Know – Kitchen Tips #2

Check out these five kitchen tips that will make your life easier. How many times do you struggle to get the store sticker off of your produce, I know it drives me crazy. Next time try using a sharp edged vegetable peeler and peel the sticker right off.

Do you ever want to use your plastic wrap and you find the edges are torn and stuck to itself? It takes me forever to find the end that tore. Hold a clean toothbrush parallel to the roll of plastic wrap. While rotating the roll, rub the bristles along the surface of the plastic wrap until the torn edge is visible, then unravel the stuck part.

Have you ever run out of cupcake liners? Next time cut some 5” squares from oven safe parchment paper. Firmly press one over the bottom of a glass, making creases to keep it in place. Place them into a cupcake pan, fill and bake according to recipe directions.

What do you do when the aluminum foil isn’t wide enough to cover your food? Cut off two pieces of foil and roll or crimp the two pieces together on one end of each piece to make the foil larger.

When you buy a roll of parchment paper it usually wants to roll up, when you cut it and lay it flat on a baking sheet. If you lightly spray the baking sheet with cooking oil and press the parchment paper on top it should stay in place.

That sounds like a great set of tips! Stickers on produce can be so frustrating—I’m always looking for an easy way to remove them. Can’t wait to see the rest of your tips! 😊
Thank you so much! 🥰
Great tips!
Thank you Betty!
All very pragmatic tips, Diane! Parchment paper in particular is my go-to tool in the kitchen.
Thank you Ab! My mother in law bought the precut parchment paper by mistake and gave them to me, I will buy them from now on as I never knew how convenient they are.
Good tips, especially the toothbrush one!
Thank you Dorothy!
Great tips! I knew only one of them, so I learned a lot!
Awe thank you Jeff!
Good ideas. Thanks, Diane!
You are very welcome!
I like to flip the parchment paper over. It then flattens out as I apply the cookie dough (or whatever).
I love the flat precut parchment paper. My mother in law bought them by mistake and gave them to me. I had always bought the rolled kind but now I will continue to buy precut!
I’ll look for that next time I need to restock.
Can I take my toothbrush to the grocery store? The plastic bags in the fruit and vegetable area drive me crazy! 🤪
Yes!!! I hate that too. Wetting my fingers always works but with covid and everything else going around I won’t do that.
Well you are amazing – the tomato stickers are the worse … you stick your fingernail in the tomato trying to peel it off, so good news from you with your suggestion!
I have dug my fingernail into so many tomatoes, too many to count.
Yes, it is annoying!
These are wonderful tips – thanks!
You’re very welcome!
I like the plastic wrap tip – I’m definitely going to remember that! Oh, and the parchment paper. Great tips, thanks Diane!
Thank you Corna!
Those are really great ideas, especially about the parchment paper as muffin papers and spraying the pan before putting parchment on it. I always fight with that stuff ! Thanks Diane
You’re welcome Susan!
Fabulous tips, thank you!
You’re very welcome!
Nice tip on what to do if you run out of cupcake liners, that happened to me once and I had to run to the store and get more even though I was on a deadline to get them baked for an event – so stressful!
I bet! We live a ways from town and I refuse to buy something I need even though my hubby has gone many times when I need something he wants. Lol
