Easy Lipton Onion Soup Meatloaf

This is my version of Lipton Onion Soup Meatloaf recipe. I am not a big lover of well done ground beef but I make this for my husband whenever I don’t want to eat supper. It has been his favorite meatloaf since I have known him, he loves the leftovers too. Do you make this meatloaf recipe too? I only do one thing different and it really enhances the flavor. I bet you can’t figure out what it is!

Preheat the oven to 350º. Spray a meatloaf pan (I use a bread pan) with cooking oil.

In a large bowl combine ground beef with one pouch of Lipton Onion soup (Dry mix).

Add the bread crumbs and stir just until combined.

In a small bowl whisk together the egg, water and ketchup. Add it to the ground beef stirring just until combined.

Place the mixture into your prepared baking dish keeping the top level.

Bake for 55 minutes.

I like to use a clean paper towel and pat the grease from the top of the meatloaf. I also use a paper towel to absorb any in the bottom by tilting the pan.

Let cool for 5-10 minutes, slice and serve.

Did you figure out what I did different from the actual Lipton recipe other than I made one loaf instead of two?

The answer is I used the entire pouch of Lipton seasoning, I didn’t cut that in half. My husband loves the added flavor.

  1. As usual, Diane, you’ve shared a recipe that makes my mouth water. I’m with your husband. I love meatloaf and this one looks so easy. Thanks for sharing, hugs, C

  2. Lovely recipe. As I’m vegetarian I can substitute but as I’m the UK I haven’t heard of Liptons but I’m sure there is onion powder available in the supermarket. Can’t wait to try and make this one.

  3. Diane, I am so so about meatloaf, but my husband really likes it. Especially cold meatloaf sandwiches. Yuck! But, I am going to make this for dinner sometime. It sounds good, but no cold leftover meatloaf sandwiches for me. 🙂

  4. I haven’t put the onion soup mix in meatloaf but I like to do a roast in the crockpot and add the onion soup mix, a can of coke and a bottle of Chili sauce, it’s very tasty !

  5. Mom used to make this – I liked it and it made nice sandwiches the next day. Her other version was “lasagna meatloaf” with cottage cheese and cheese … also yummy.

  6. I always put onion soup mix in my hamburgers, but use my grandma’s meatloaf recipe and I don’t think powdered soups were around back then. 😆

    • What a great idea Carla and I bet that adds a ton of flavor! We buy hamburger patties premade or I would try that. We buy half a cow every year and I get about #35 of ground beef, but my husband loves Sam’s club burgers so much that he said to stop having burgers made with our side of beef meat. 🤷🏽‍♀️

      • Everyone has their favourites. I sometimes buy the ones from Costco, but every now and then, I want my own homemade ones.

      • I think it is an entirely different taste when we make our own. I think what he likes is they are 3/4” thick from Sam’s Club. Have a great week Carla!

  7. Sounds good. Funny coincidence is that while waiting in line at the grocery store, I overheard a conversation about meatloaf that a lady was going to make for a Saturday gathering. It must be a comfort food during these cold days!

  8. This looks delicious, Diane.

Lipton onion soup mix reminds me of my Ma, who made fish with it. Layer mayo across a fillet of fish and then sprinkle on onion soup mix. It’s delicious too.

    • Oh yes, perfect recipe! I do the same thing with potatoes, cut them into 1” cubes (toss with a little oil instead of mayo) and bake in the oven, so good. Thank you Ab and I hope you had a wonderful weekend.

  9. At first I thought you were using tea in your meatloaf – Lipton is a tea brand here in South Africa and one of my favourites (besides Rooibos tea). We’ve never made meatloaf (can you believe it?) … maybe I should try your easy recipe!

  10. I have been craving meatloaf- if that is even a thing! I think I am in need of a cozy meal that is not made in a crockpot. I am sick of crockpot food. But this is perfect! Maybe tonight!

  11. Very inventive! I would not have thought of that combo, but I can see how it would work well together. Adding Lipton soup mix to my shopping list…
