Our 30th Wedding Anniversary

Today is my husband and my 30th wedding anniversary.

The picture above is from our 25th wedding anniversary

when we went to Alaska. For our 30th anniversary we

had planned to fly first class, cruise in a mini suite and

tour Hawaii to celebrate these wonderful years together.

We planned and saved for this trip for five years.

Instead, my husband will go to work and I will

gratefully care for two of our grandchildren.

Our daughter is our hero, working as a registered nurse

full time in the ICU unit of our local hospital. It is filled to

capacity with Covid patients. So many of her coworkers have

already been infected by the virus. My daughter has been

very careful but we know it is only a matter of time before

she may be infected too. Many of my family members have

been infected with the virus. Thankfully they have all

recovered. My husband, daughter and I talked and decided

it is in the best interest of our entire family for us to stay

away from my daughter and to move our grandkids into our

home until the pandemic gets better or she gets vaccinated.

I went from being in a pandemic slump and disappointed

we had to cancel Thanksgiving, to being excited to cook a

smaller dinner for our grandkids. We started watching

Christmas shows, talking about Santa and even how Santa

will deal with the virus. What a joy grandchildren can be.

Unfortunately I can’t see my other grandson, which I miss

dearly! We were going to my son’s home for Thanksgiving

but now all of our family will stay in their own homes.

Thanks goodness for Facetime!

What a wonderful way to celebrate our 30th anniversary, with

the grandkids and flowers. We can’t go out to dinner, on a trip

or even to a movie, but we are so happy just knowing we are all

safe and healthy. I hope all of you stay safe and healthy too!

  1. Happy anniversary. Thirty years of commitment and love pour from your post. Enjoy the grandkids and stay safe.

  2. Congratulations! I’ve heard your story repeated again and again with different circumstances. Such a sad time. Yet we can be thankful this year for what we have, which is great abundance. God is so good.

  3. Whether you know it or not, your words and outlook are an inspiration. It is not easy to keep a positive attitude these days, so we have to manage what we can. Sort of have a take it as it comes attitude. Congratulations on your anniversary and enjoy your dinner with the family. That’s what it’s all about anyway.

    • Exactly how I feel too. Hawaii is just a vacation and will always be there. Family is what is most important no matter what. It doesn’t do any good having regrets when you can’t control what’s happening. Thank you so much! 💕

  4. Best wishes to you both on your anniversary Diane! Congratulations . As you rightly say being safe is most important in these times. Let us hope for the best . Take care.

  5. Many congratulations on the anniversary. In my life, our wedding anniversary is the best celebration of the year. Helen and I are only a couple years behind you…even though I’m older than anyone!

Fingers crossed, Helen’s brother-in-law is back in the hospital in Missouri. 2nd time for COVID-19. Worse, this time. Holding at 50-50.

Stay safe, please. Helen and are hermits by choice and nature; so, we find isolation “normal”. Newest worry? Learning folks can acquire the pandemic from their dog(s).

Anyway – congrats, again and again.

    • I am so sorry! I hear about all the horror stories from my daughter and she just keeps telling me nobody knows enough about this to be certain what it will do. You just confirmed that, stay safe my friend. Thank you for you kind words!

  6. Aww, how nice that you get to be with your grandchildren. <3 The quieter holiday will give you a chance to focus on what Thanksgiving is about, talk about what you're thankful for, even make a list with crayon illustrations. 😉 Feel free to read them the story I've been posting since Friday, continuing through Wednesday – "from Grumpy to Grateful." Here's the story so far:

  7. Happy anniversary!! I’m sure you’ll have a wonderful Thanksgiving with your grandkids. Praying your daughter stays safe and healthy! She is so brave!!

    • Thank you Michelle. Not only is she a single mother of two, working full time in the ICU but also going to school and will be a nurse practitioner in about 20 months. It has been hard enough but when this pandemic hit it was almost impossible. I don’t know how she does it. Stay safe!

  8. First of all………..Happy Anniversary ! and what a wonderful photo of the two of you 🙂 I feel you are doing everything right and yet it can be so hard can’t it? You must be very proud of your daughter. My husband and I made the hard decision to basically “cancel” christmas this year so we can many more. I will miss my son so much, but he lives in a Hot Zone and we all feel this is best. Enjoy your Anniversary Diane !

  9. Happy Anniversary, Diane. I’m sorry it’s not what you had planned. My hat’s off to you for taking in two of the grandchildren. This will be a time for creating new memories and traditions with them. And God bless your daughter! I pray for her continued good health. I hope by this time next year you and your husband will be able to take that dream trip to Hawaii.

    • Thank you Janet! The Hawaii trip was absolutely perfect and it was our 25th. Travel is fun but not necessary like family is. I’ve been using the money to get things done around the house and that is fun! The grandkids moving in was a no brainer. I only wish I could keep my daughter safe the same way. Stay safe my friend!

  10. Happy wedding anniversary Diane and hope your family keep on managing.
Love how you mention discussing how Santa will cope with Christmas. A peaceful, healthy and happy time to you all 🌸🙂❤️

  11. Happy anniversary Diane. What an incredible milestone. I’m sorry you will be missing Hawaii but it will still be there when this pandemic passes.

I hope you enjoy your time with your grandkids and I salute your daughter for being a true hero doing such valuable and important work.

Take good care to all of you!

  12. Happy anniversary! That is wonderful ❤️ And I’m glad to hear that through the ups and downs of the year, things have gone well for you and yours. I hope you have a great Thanksgiving! 🙂

  13. Your daughter is a HERO and I send her some love as a fellow RN (but who is not working in clinical nursing any longer). Happy 30th wedding anniversary and I am sorry your wonderful sounding plans got cancelled. Hoping for your 31st or 32nd anniversary you can do them!

  14. Happy Anniversary to both of you Diane 🙂 Although indoors, you are with your family and able to inspire so many in this hour of need! Your family is able to directly support the covid victims..! You turn out to be the angels in so many lives..!! Thank you for all you and your family is doing!!! Happy Anniversary and Happy Thanksgiving!!

  15. What lovely picture of you and your husband. Happy Anniversary! May you celebrate many more together. Wishing you and all your family strength, safety, and health as we go through this difficult time!!

    • Thank you and yes she is. On top of being a single mom, working full time in ICU and Covid, she is in school to become a nurse practitioner! We help out a lot and the kids stay here the 3-4 days when she works anyway. On top of that, she’s a straight A student. Very proud of her.

  16. Happy Anniversary! My 31st anniversary is this Wednesday.

God Bless your amazing daughter!!! She is my hero, and you for being a great grandma.

Thanksgiving for me was always a horrible, long, grueling day of never ending meals.
I worked as a food server and restaurant manager for 40 years 🙂

I am now happily retired and look forward to cooking for my daughters and their families. Cooking for 12-50 people is a breeze compared to taking care of hundreds of families.

I am cooking for both daughters this year, but the food will be delivered by my husband. These are strange times for sure.

I have never decorated for Christmas before the end of Thanksgiving weekend. This year is different. I think my heart needs some Christmas joy, so we’re starting this afternoon.

I hope you and your family stay safe.

    Happy Thanksgiving,,,,,, AND anniversary!

    Cathy

    • Wow that is a lot of cooking. I’m sure you could teach me a thing or two. I think you are wonderful for still cooking and delivering the food instead of getting together. I too never decorate before Thanksgiving is over, not this year too. But look out this weekend because it will be the last warmer days and I want to start decorating outside. I wasn’t going to do much decorating but now that the grandkids are living here, I am so excited!

  17. Happy anniversary to you and your husband on 30 years of marriage.. (Please share your secret sometime). And wishing your daughter good health and safety and may her spirits be up during these trying times.
Sending you Love, Light and tons of Blessings🌷💕☺

    • Thank you so very much! My secret is my wonderful husband, he always lets me have my way…lol But seriously, we have never had a fight. We disagree like everyone else but never let it get to a fight. We kiss every morning when we wake up and again when we go to bed.

  18. Diane dear, your daughter is a hero for sure, and I will say a special prayer for her, but you and your husband are, too. God bless you, and many more happy anniversaries. So glad I got to know you! Happy Thanksgiving!

    • Thank you so much Angela. I have such mixed feelings about my daughter. On one hand I wish she would get the mild version of the virus so I can stop worrying and on the other hand I’m scared she will get it. Today all of our ambulances, fire trucks and police cars filled the hospital parking lot, sirens blaring, as my daughter and her coworkers left the parking garage. I got goosebumps and wanted to cry.

  19. And sincere congratulations. My wife and I will have our 58th in 3 weeks. I had a friend die at 96 this last week. They had been married for 74 years. So keep enjoying each other! Coronavirus will go!

  20. Happy 30th Anniversary to you and your husband Diane!
Incredible of your daughter to help others and put herself at risk, all over the world we are eternally gratful for people like her. Although celebrations this year aren’t how they have/should of been, like you said, thank goodness for facetime and that we are all healthy Xxx

  21. Wishing you and your husband a very Happy 30th Anniversary! A wonderful milestone, Diane! Be sure and take that trip you planned in the near future (2021?), when it is safe to do so! You deserve it!! Also, God bless your daughter and all the healthcare workers who are sacrificing so much during this pandemic! They are angels on earth, and we owe them all so much!!! This is a difficult holiday season for so many families, but it sounds like you and your family are all doing all the right things to keep each other safe! May next Thanksgiving and Christmas be a better time for all to be together again, and in the meantime, may you all enjoy this Thanksgiving and Christmas in the best way you can (we are so lucky to live in the time of technology that allows us to still be together in a different way). 🙂 <3

    • Thank you so much for your kind and caring words. We definitely will take that trip but probably not next year. We will take a less expensive trip as we have been using the money to get a lot of work done around the house, yard and pole barn. Much needed work that we have been putting off. We are talking about going when my husband retires in a few years and staying in Hawaii even longer.
