Easy Salisbury Steak
If you want a quick and easy meal to prepare, this is it! Everyone was a member of the clean plate club when we were done eating. This is a great kid friendly meal. This recipe uses regular hamburgers, fresh or frozen, and they cook on top of the range in a delicious gravy. I would have loved to add mushrooms but nobody but me likes them!
Ingredients
In a large frying pan over
medium heat, melt the butter.
Add the onions and cook until tender.
Remove the onions to a bowl and set aside.
Brown the hamburger patties in the same
pan cooking about 2 minutes on each side.
In a small bowl, whisk together the beef
broth, ketchup and Worcestershire sauce.
Place all 6 browned hamburger
patties flat into the pan.
Top with the cooked onions.
Pour the broth mixture into the pan.
Bring to a simmer and cover.
Simmer for 20 minutes.
Remove the hamburger patties
from the pan and keep warm.
Turn the burner with the gravy pan
to medium and bring to a hard
simmer stirring constantly.
Sprinkle the flour over the top and
whisk continuously until the flour is
mixed in and the gravy thickens.
Remove pan from the heat.
Place a hamburger patty on a plate
with rice or mashed potatoes.
Ladle the gravy over the
hamburger patty and the rice.
Add a vegetable and you
have a delicious meal!

Something I enjoy making and eating. I usually make mash potatoes.
I wanted mashed potatoes but I was catering to the grandkids! That’s just what grandmas do. hahaha
I’m seeing more and more recipes lately that call for Worcestershire sauce. This formerly was always a staple in my cabinet, but somehow over the years, I just didn’t replace it. Probably should correct this oversight. I love the way you make the rice scoops. The gravy looks just that much more delicious as it slides down the sides! ;->
Virtual hugs,
Judie
Thank you for such a nice comment! I use a measuring cup to do that to the rice. The gravy was nice, thick and good!
I haven’t had this in years and love this comfort food
I love how simple and quick it is to make!
My second favorite steak to bone-in ribeye!! Just add mashed taters! 😁
I’m with you, mashed taters! I was being nice to the grandkids by making them rice. What kids don’t like mashed potatoes!!!!!!
Agreed!!
This is one of my favorites. You made me hungry.
Happy Monday.
Then my job is done…lol Have a wonderful week!
Looks so delicious! the gravy looks like heaven… !
It was definitely a family pleaser! Thank you Mel!
Making this tonight, with mushrooms, thanks for the inspiration!
I’m so jealous! I want mushrooms!
It looks lovely. I have never had gravy served with hamburger patties with rice before ( in the U.K), but I would definitely try it. I had meatloaf in America once, with mash! You do cook some dishes in a different way to us sometimes. It’s always good to try new things.
Thank you and I agree. It is fun and tasty to try new things. Have a great day!
And you.
I thought everyone loved mushrooms? They’re my favorite!
I know right! Sometimes I want them so bad I just eat them out of a can! It’s a compromise though because I don’t like green pepper and everyone else does. I refuse to cook a meal with them. Occasionally if I am going out to eat I will make my husband a meal with them but that’s rare…lol
We love Salisbury Steak! It’s such a hearty meal. 🙂
I couldn’t believe how much the grandkids loved it! Never know with them…lol
Looks good will do it and add mushrooms as you say. Here the forests yield them fresh daily we all love them here sad for you as healthy they are and contain some of bodies needs to ward off health problems. A natural doctor indeed. You may well know that but cant make people eat them. Good and the English name of a great cathedral city goes well with me Salisbury was old Sarum the place of the King.Old city of 5th century walls still to be witnessed today almost intact just outside the city today.
Thank you!
I’ll be right over for dinner. I’ll bring the wine.
YES!!!!! I am waiting!
I love this fast and simple recipe for this delicious dish!
This is one of those rare recipes that is made so easy but tastes like you cook all day! Thanks Nancy!
I love mushrooms – haven’t had salisbury steak in a long time, but loved it with gravy, onions, mushrooms and mashed potatoes. The good old days.
Oh yes and mashed potatoes are a must unless you are catering to the grandkids….hahaha
They want tater tots?
No they wanted rice…I wanted mashed potatoes…lol
Wow I’m surprised kids like rice – I figured tater tots, fries or maybe sweet potato fries.
I know! They can’t possibly be my grandkids!…lol
Better feel their foreheads!
I know! Then I can eat medium hot Chi Chi Salsa and my 4 year old can’t get enough of it. Go figure!
Kids – I don’t think we were kids ever as we didn’t do those things!
This does look tasty.
Thank you it is very easy too!
That is good.
Hi Diane. Tried this recipe last week. Liked it! Even better the next day I do believe. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you Kate for letting me know! I only post recipes we love and it’s always nice to hear when somebody else does too! ❤
