Bread Made In A Bag

Do you think you can’t make bread? Well you can make this white bread. All the ingredients go into a resealable bag that you combine and knead by squeezing the bag.

Spray cooking oil onto the sides and bottom of a bread pan.

In a resealable bag add 1 cup flour, 1/4 cup sugar and rapid rise yeast.

In a measuring cup, add 1 cup warm water, close to 110º then add to the bag.

Seal the bag and combine, using your hands to squish the bag so no flour is visible. Let sit at room temperature for 10 minutes so the yeast can activate.

Add 1 cup more of flour, olive oil and salt. Seal bag and squish to combine.

Add the last cup of flour, seal bag and squeeze to combine. Then squish thoroughly for 10 minutes without stopping.

Pour dough into your prepared pan. With your hand lightly oiled, even out the top of the dough.

Cover with a dish towel and place in a warm place until the dough rises.

Once it rises, about 30-60 minutes depending on the warmth, bake in a preheated 375º oven for 30 minutes.

Brush with melted butter and leave in the pan for 10 minutes.

Remove from the pan and let cool.

Slice when cool and store in a plastic bread bag.

The cutting board was a gift made by my son for Christmas. It is beautiful.

    • Oh yes the good old days! One time I made dough and put it in the refrigerator overnight because I didn’t have time to bake it. In the morning I took it out of the refrigerator and it had continued to rise, what a shock!

  1. Diane, this is fantastic! All I need is some rapid rise yeast, and I can make this in our camper. We have a convection oven. It’s on the agenda! And yes, that is a beautiful cutting board!

    • No it’s not difficult because you don’t pull it out of the bag with your hand, it is too wet unlike normal dough and you don’t add more flour. All I did is slightly roll back the zipper part of the bag and the dough rolled right out into the pan. It doesn’t come out even so that is why I lightly oil one hand and gently smooth out the top. The top is a bit bumpy but my mouth didn’t mind and once you cut it you couldn’t tell. Lol

      • Yes, I just looked and you can, using parchment paper … maybe I ought to try it. Who knows, the recipe might have been in those crockpot books I had to have from Amazon. 🙂 As long as you don’t have to do something before or after …. 🙂 I will put the link in a separate comment in case you want to try it out sometime. He has a tall slow cooker – I have the same one as your mother-in-law as you recommended it to me.

      • I have multiple slow cookers, all sizes for family events. I’m sure any one will work, just a different size bread. When I make homemade bread, I don’t make sandwiches with it, just butter for me.

      • I got some more of that sourdough bread when I went shopping last week and I like it just with butter on it. I was going to make something in the crockpot today, but they were talking about the ice coming, so decided against it. Since it is digital, I don’t know if it would break if it shut down suddenly from power loss – it would come back on with the generator, but … why take a chance. Right now, you probably have similar weather, but we had 4 inches of snow and it is 17 degrees with a real feel of -12. It was finally nice and clear out. Sigh.

      • I’m glad you found some bread you like. I like it with just butter too, especially if it’s toasted. Not looking forward to this next storm. I need to have my hospital procedure, I find out when tomorrow. How much do you want to bet they will want to do it Monday or Tuesday when the big storm hits. I will have to wait until later in the week if they do, unfortunately.

      • I hope you can move it around and not have to deal with the weather as another worry. It is always something. Next door (with the dog) has been home since just before Christmas. The car doesn’t move and Jeff saw her walking on a can a few weeks ago and came over to tell me when I was shoveling snow. So, she probably thought she’d be at home recovering, no Winter driving, except now I see her going out every other day – someone picks her up … PT. Not a good time to be on a cane when roads, sidewalks are treacherous and you live alone. In that case, you opt for Summer surgery.

      • Yes, it’s been wonderful so I’ve been reading … I actually finished a book today, second one this month. I came in from shoveling and was going through pictures and nodded off, so got up, had a cup of coffee and decided it was peaceful and quiet and finished the book. That will end once she goes back to work, even if it’s Winter.

  2. What an interesting recipe. I’ve made a couple batches now of an easy Foccacia bread. I was supposed to use rapid rise yeast but used the regular yeast instead and it worked well.

    Lovely cutting board!

    • Thank you Katelon! Rapid rise yeast is just easier, regular yeast can definitely be used instead. I was so excited to get the cutting board from my son. He told me he would make one for the new kitchen but that was over a year ago, I thought he forgot.

    • I don’t use it for sandwiches, but I could have. I love it with butter but I might put blueberries in it the next time. It will be fun playing around with the flavor.
