Easy Canadian Poutine Recipe: A Delicious Classic

Have you ever tried Canadian Poutine? It is made up of cheese curds, french fries and gravy. I didn’t think I would like it when I made it the first time because I eat my french fries with ketchup only, boy was I wrong! I can see why this is so popular in Canada. If you have never tasted it before you have to try this easy recipe, you will want to make it over and over again like we do.

Never tried this but we have a didh in Nice called La Poutine which is essentially teeny, tiny fish
Oh wow, I have to google that!
😎
Nice 👍
Thank you!
ooh, I’ve never made this
You have to try it, I was surprised by how good it was!
I follow a blogger from Canada, and she has mentioned poutine. It doesn’t sound good to me, but I will try it sometime – because you said you didn’t think you’d like it, but you did. I know it is a favorite of many!
I like my fries with ketchup and salt, that’s why I didn’t think I would like it. Other than the texture difference it was like mashed potatoes and gravy with curds.
Wonderful comfort food!
Thank you Mary!
I tasted this on a trip to Montreal and really enjoyed it. I was quite surprised as it sounds unlikely to be a special dish. How wrong I was!
I agree, I read how popular this dish was and had to try it. I was skeptical too Kevin, until I tasted it!
Well some Canadian I am – I’ve never had poutine! I don’t think it was a “thing” when I lived there nor when we visited my grandmother. Of course, we always had her neighbor’s spaghetti and meatballs and I had meatballs on a Kaiser bun. Kaiser buns are a Canadian treat – the consistency of a baguette, crispy on the outside, soft on the inside.
No way! You have to try it sometime Linda. We have Kaiser buns in the stores, we add meatballs and call them meatball subs.
That sounds delicious. They are the best … a meatball on a Kaiser roll sounds very good right about now!
Interesting dish for this Southern/Southwestern gal who spent 7 years in Mexico. I couldn’t quite read the cheese packages in the picture. Are cheese curds a “thing” or is it just rectangles of cheese?
Cheese curds are a thing. When we go to Amish Country I always go to the cheese store and bring back 3-4 small bags, I love them.
Only because you are such a good cook will I take your word for this combo!
Hahaha I love them all separately, especially cheese curds but was expecting not to like this, I loved it!
The looks legit to me, Diane! 😋 The secret key really is the cheese curd and you nailed it!
Thank you!
I’m so glad you liked it ! Having said that, I’m Canadian and I don’t like it all lol
I really didn’t think I would. I love curds cold but wasn’t sure I would like them this way. It was very good!
As a French Canadian, I’ve been eating poutine for years, sparingly since it’s kind of fattening. Our favorite pizza place gives it away Sunday through Wednesday with any take out order. The best poutine is always made with fresh cheese curds. I usually put the cheese on the hot fries and then cover it all with the gravy!
I can’t believe they give it away for free! What a great advertising tactic! I go to Amish Country to get my curds, I love them!
I’ve never heard of Canadian Poutine, but we love french fries (or chips as we call them here in SA), so this dish I’m definitely going to save.
I really didn’t think I would like it, boy was I wrong!
My sister and I had this while we were in Montreal last year! I think I could have done without the gravy but it is awesome you are sharing the recipe 🙂
Was it fixed the same way? I was told this is like the original way to make it. I am a sucker for gravy. Lol
Yes it was fixed the same way, I guess gravy and fries are not for me, ha!
