Look at this amazing Zebra Farfalle Italian Pasta Salad! Farfalle is the name of the pasta shape, or as I always call it, bow tie pasta. Do you remember I took a pasta class and I learned how to make ravioli? This is one of the pasta bags I bought at their store. Guess how they get that black color into the pasta? It is squid ink! Yes you read that right. I didn’t notice any difference in taste then regular pasta but what a dramatic look it gives the pasta.

This recipe is just a basic recipe for Italian Pasta. I didn’t add a lot of veggies because I wanted to showcase the pasta. You can use any type of pasta shape, any of your favorite vegetables and your favorite Italian dressing. This is a perfect dish to take to a picnic since it is not mayonnaise based and wonderful for a family meal. Think of all the veggies that can be added like onion, green pepper, broccoli…….. the possibilities are endless. When I make this I use whatever veggies I have in the kitchen. Cherry tomatoes work great with this, however, all I had was a large whole tomato so I diced it up and used it. There is no right or wrong way with this pasta salad. It will taste great with whatever you add to it.

  1. I like pasta salad – back in the day my mom would often use that “Suddenly Salad” and just add her own veggies and meat and hardboiled eggs to it … interesting about the black coloring.

      • We used to have it all the time back in the day – I’ll have to look. We had either chicken or Eckrich smoked sausage in it and my mom made garlic toast to go with it – suddenly hungry for that meal.
