Easy 1950’s Strawberry Dessert Recipe

A delicious treat with layers of strawberries and pineapple mixed with jello, sour cream, and whipped cream or Cool Whip.

Thaw the frozen strawberries until partially thawed. Cut each strawberry into four pieces. It’s easier to cut them when partially frozen. Once completely thawed proceed to the next step.

Combine gelatin and boiling water in a large bowl. Stir until completely dissolved.

Add the strawberries and pineapple then stir until combined.

Pour half of the strawberry mixture into serving bowls or a 9” x 13” dish. Refrigerate for 30 minutes until soft set.

Spread the sour cream evenly on top of the strawberry mixture then top with the remaining of the strawberry mixture. Cover and refrigerate until set, I made mine a day ahead.

Top with the Cool Whip or whipped cream.

Garnish with fresh strawberries and serve.

Thank you!
What a great little desert! When strawberry’s are in seasons here in UK again I’ll certainly give this one a go! 🙂
Definitely wait until they are in season! They had them on sale 3 for $5.00 (off season) so I had to get one. I swear they are never ripe on the inside when you get them at the store. Even with them like that, this dessert was delicious. Thank you Paul!
Such a lovely little retro treat!
Thank you Dorothy! I forgot to comment on your meal with orzo. I love orzo and your recipe looks and sounds delicious!
It’s one of my favorites too!
Those look delicious, Diane! 😋🍓
Surprising it wasn’t super sweet. This could be made with very low calories using sugar free jello, sour cream and whipped cream. Thank you Ab!
So pretty!
Thank you for your kind words Linda, I had fun making this.
Thank you for reposting Ned!
I love anything strawberry. I wonder how the sour cream will taste on them with whipped cream? Have you ever mixed the sour cream and whipped cream the put on top of the strawberries?
With the sour cream between the strawberry mixture, you don’t know it is even in there. To me it gave it more of a cream cheese taste. You definitely could mix the two together, it should taste the same. Good idea Georgetta!
Thanks. I will get some strawberries on my next shopping trip and try it. It looks very tasty.
Let me know how it turns out.
Forget the main course, I’m having dessert first!
Hahaha I actually did that as this lasted 3 days and was very addicting.
Well yum – and it doesn’t need to go into the oven!
Plus it kept for 3 days, thank you!
That’s a plus!
Now this is one intriguing recipe!
It tastes so good too and calories can be reduced by using fat free gelatin, cool whip, and sour cream.
