Easy 1950’s Strawberry Dessert Recipe

A delicious treat with layers of strawberries and pineapple mixed with jello, sour cream, and whipped cream or Cool Whip.

Thaw the frozen strawberries until partially thawed. Cut each strawberry into four pieces. It’s easier to cut them when partially frozen. Once completely thawed proceed to the next step.

Combine gelatin and boiling water in a large bowl. Stir until completely dissolved.

Add the strawberries and pineapple then stir until combined.

Pour half of the strawberry mixture into serving bowls or a 9” x 13” dish. Refrigerate for 30 minutes until soft set.

Spread the sour cream evenly on top of the strawberry mixture then top with the remaining of the strawberry mixture. Cover and refrigerate until set, I made mine a day ahead.

Top with the Cool Whip or whipped cream.

Garnish with fresh strawberries and serve.

    • Definitely wait until they are in season! They had them on sale 3 for $5.00 (off season) so I had to get one. I swear they are never ripe on the inside when you get them at the store. Even with them like that, this dessert was delicious. Thank you Paul!

  1. I love anything strawberry. I wonder how the sour cream will taste on them with whipped cream? Have you ever mixed the sour cream and whipped cream the put on top of the strawberries?

    • With the sour cream between the strawberry mixture, you don’t know it is even in there. To me it gave it more of a cream cheese taste. You definitely could mix the two together, it should taste the same. Good idea Georgetta!
