It’s interesting to learn about different New Year’s Day food traditions. I hadn’t heard that one, but it sound good!
I love this pretzel and it is more of a local tradition. Somebody shared the recipe from the bakery that went out of business and it was in our newspaper. We were thrilled to get it.
Happy new year!!
Thank you Esther, you too!
Thank you!!

Happy new year, Diane! A slow cooked recipe is a gentle and appropriate way to ease into the year. Wishing you and your loved ones all the best in 2026! 🎆💕
Thank you Ab! Happy New Year to you and your family too.
Love me some sauerkraut and pork. We make it as a side on Thanksgiving (you should see the looks we get)
I must admit, my eyebrows went up when I read that. Haha I can eat sauerkraut any day but not sure about Thanksgiving. Besides, who says what is kosher or not, it’s all about family tradition right?
It’s a Baltimore thing.
And we have a recipe for sauerkraut soup. We don’t make it often but it is pretty good, assuming you like sauerkraut.
I love sour Kraft but I rinse it before I cook it. I never heard of the soup.
Always rinse it. Also, I read somewhere, never buy it when sold in a bottle – something about chemicals used to preserve it. When we do sauerkraut and pork, we brown the pork first, then add some sauerkraut to deglaze the pan AND it browns the sauerkraut. As you know, that is all flavor.
I tried making my own sauerkraut many years ago. My husband’s uncle gave us the huge crock and a device for cutting the cabbage. It had a board that went on the top to hold the cabbage under the liquid. Did it work? Nope, it was moldy on top in just a week. I obviously didn’t get it all under the liquid or didn’t use enough liquid. I never tried it again. Lol
LOL yeah no.
Happy New Year Diane !
Thank you and Happy New Year!
