Easy Toasted Leftover Spaghetti Sandwich

No, I’m not crazy! This is the perfect way to eat leftover spaghetti. I have always loved putting spaghetti on a single piece of bread and butter but it is flimsy and usually the spaghetti falls off.
So I thought, why not put spaghetti on thick buttered Texas style toast instead. It was a great idea as not only did it taste delicious, but the spaghetti never fell out and the toast didn’t get soggy.

Make sure the spaghetti sits overnight in the sauce to absorb the sauce flavor.

Butter all four sides of two Texas style bread slices.

Toast the buttered bread on both sides until golden brown.

Warm a small bowl of the leftover spaghetti.

Place spaghetti with a little sauce on the toast and serve.

You should try a leafy over spaghetti Fritta
That sounds good too! I never had spaghetti Fritta.
Actually me neither – but Frittas were invented so as to use leftovers from night before in an egg dish in the morning. At least that’s what I read. 👍🏼😊 A lot of recipes today from the past were invented to use leftovers. Even days old bread, made into bread pudding.
Day old bread is the only way to make bread pudding, one of my favorites!
I have never heard of this kind of sandwich – hahah – it dos like tasty
Well I thought I created it but once I posted it I hear people say their parents and grandparents did the same thing. Lol
Happy September! 🥰
I never would’ve thought of eating spaghetti like that! It’s different but I’m sure it tastes good.
I thought of how much I love spaghetti with garlic toast and went from there.
You never know what you’re going to get! It sounds really good to eat with the garlic toast crunch.
Thanks for the great idea!
You’re welcome, it was worth experimenting with it. I will do this from now on with my leftover spaghetti.
Nice one, I love a toasty sandwich! 🙂
Thank you Paul, the buttered toast made it so tasty!
An excellent idea
Thank you Derrick!
Thank you Ned. Have a great weekend!
My mom used to fry leftover spaghetti. I loved it!
You are the second person that said that. It seems like people ate this in the older days, maybe my post will bring it back. 😋
Well, this is different!
You are rubbing off on me Dorothy, cook with what you have in the refrigerator. Lol I don’t think there is anything I make that somebody else already thought of. Enjoy your Tuesday Dorothy.
LOL! Happy Tuesday Diane!
Thank you Dorothy!
Why not? It’s kind of like having garlic bread with spaghetti. Looks delicious – and fun, too.
Yes! It would be easy to use garlic butter on the bread before you toast it. I left the spaghetti long and once it was on the toast it was a tangled mess and not a bit fell out because of that.
my dad used to eat these!
Do you realize how hard it is to create something new? Every time I think of something I find out it’s been around for decades.😂
same. here –
No Goddess, you are far from crazy. Growing up in an Italian household this was really a staple, but with a few twists.
We never had Texas toast. We used crunchy Italian bread, maybe warmed up a little. (We NEVER ate white American bread.)
Also, and this is true, the leftover spaghetti was FRIED, really. That gave it a lot of crunch. I can still taste it after all those years. That is only one reason that I was rather chunky as a kid. But it was worth it. Enjoy this one, Goddess. It’s one of the things the Lord will serve in heaven!!
Amen JC! Who knew other people ate this. I could eat pasta everyday but I have to eat most of it since my hubby is diabetic. I guess that’s not so bad for me. 🤣
Sounds interesting. Have you ever had a mashed potato sandwich? I had one years ago in a small German restaurant in Flagstaff, AZ. I’ve made them eversince. Toasted garlic bread, mashed potato on top, slice of cheese over a tomato slice on top of the mashed potatoes, plenty of garlic, broil until cheese melts and all is warm…..so yummy!
How clever is that!!! I have never heard of it. Do you use cold leftover mashed potatoes or make them hot for the sandwich.
Left over.
The restaurant might have had something extra but thats how I remembered it so thats been how I’ve made them eversince.
Where’s the “Love it!” button? Thanks, Diane.
Awe what a sweet complaint Barbara, thank you!
great idea! using something unconventional for sandwich filling. 🙂
Thank you, two things I love had to taste great together. Lol
So new to me – very creative!
Thank you!
My mom would have to have that – she loved her cold spaghetti and would apologize to me that we did not having enough leftovers for a second night for both of us as she would keep going into the fridge and taking some out the day after. 🙂 So she would make me tuna melt (which I loved) and she’d finish off the leftover spaghetti. Sometimes she made a lot to begin with and made baked spaghetti the next day. I would enjoy this. I think I mentioned before that my aunt’s/grandmother’s friend lived down the street from them and was Italian and her elderly father lived at their house and he insisted on pasta every night for dinner, if not a main dish, at least a side dish. So, every time we would visit my grandmother, Lorraine brought down a huge pot of spaghetti and meatballs for us. My aunt would go to the store and get Kaiser buns (the crispy kind, not soft, but more the consistency of French bread that made crumbs all over the place) and I’d have meatball sandwiches – yum. We also used to go to a place called “No Frills” which made cheddar cheese buns and the top of the bun was hard where the melted cheddar had dried … also nice with the meatballs. This sounds very appealing to me!
Now that’s the way to have spaghetti and meatballs where everyone helps. I gave my grandson cold spaghetti for supper last night. I had no idea he loved it cold, I do too. Sounds like you lost out in this one. Lol
Yes and everyone was happy – we all had our favorites in the long run. Now your grandson will want this treat every time he visits you. 🙂
He wants anything I eat. I have to hide my snacks from him. 🤣
He is a growing boy – hopefully not into sports too, he’ll eat you out of house and home then!
That’s a fact!
I’ve never seen a spaghetti sandwich before. I will have to try this with T!
I was surprised it wasn’t messy at all. I left the pasta long and twisted it as I put it on the bread, not a bit fell out when I ate it. Let me know if T likes it.
It sounds good, but my system doesn’t do well with that much bread and pasta. We can’t always have what we want.😉
I totally understand Linda!
What a great idea! This looks so good! 🙂
Thank you Nancy, we loved it.
Wow never had it this way.
It was really good, I will be using my leftover spaghetti this way from now on.
Well, I can honestly say that I have never tried this with leftover spaghetti (but then again, there is rarely spaghetti leftovers when we make it). I will have to make spaghetti especially to try your recipe … I must say, it looks delicious!
It really was delicious but the butter made it! Sprinkle a little garlic powder in the butter before you butter the bread and it’s just like having garlic toast with the spaghetti. When you try it let me know what you think.
What a unique idea! My husband loves spaghetti and loves toast so I’ll see if he wants to try this one
That’s exactly why I tried it this way. I need my spaghetti the normal way first and the leftovers were perfect with the Texas toast.
Interesting, I have leftover pasta from the Olive Garden. Perhaps I might try it.🌺
Oh yes, all their pasta tastes great! I never eat all mine when we go but I know what I will do with it next time. I might even try it with the Alfredo pasta. Thank you Doreen, you are so inspiring.
