Old Fashion Cheesecake Recipe

This old-fashioned recipe came from a church cookbook. They made their own crust, but I used a graham cracker crust. You can use whatever crust you want as long as it is a 9” deep dish. The church crust will be with the recipe card.

Cream the sugar and cream cheese together.

Add the egg yolks, flour, lemon juice and vanilla extract, mixing to combine.

Slowly add the milk and mix, I used my hand-held mixer.

Beat the egg whites until stiff peaks form using clean dry beaters.

Gently fold the egg whites into the cheesecake mixture until smooth then pour into the 9” deep pie dish.

Bake in a preheated oven at 325º for about 60 minutes or until lightly brown on the outer edge. Let cool in the refrigerator then top with your favorite topping before serving.

One ☝️ of my favorites
Thank you Randy!
Can I use 2% milk or whipping cream in it? or does it have to be whole milk? It sounds the texture would be a very fluffy or is it heavy?
You could try, this was an old recipe and how they made it back then. It reminded me of a tapioca pudding without the tapioca. I loved it but it isn’t like the cheesecake we buy at restaurants and Cheesecake Factory.
I’m not a fan of cheesecake, but these do look good
This has an entirely different taste than the cheesecake we make now. Thank you Derrick!
yummm
Thank you Beth 💕
Thanks Ned!
You make cheesecake look even more elegant with the drizzle of chocolate and strawberries Diane!
They hide the imperfections! Lol
Ha ha – not you having imperfections with your baking!
I have made some really delicious food but if it doesn’t look good nobody will want to make it. I look back on my 2017 pictures and I want to do them all over again. It’s amazing how things get better with time.
Gravy and chocolate for imperfections … you are a genius Diane!
Don’t forget the fruit too. 😂
Yes, have to resort to frozen fruit which is probably more perfect that fresh fruit. 🙂
I was introduced to cheesecake in college at a T.G.I.F. It was off the charts good. Was it because it was my first? I don’t know, but I have never had a cheesecake quite that good again. This recipe sounds good. I’ll need to give it a try.
I have never eaten a piece of cheesecake and thought it wasn’t as good as the first time I tried it. 😋 Cheesecake is just as delicious the first or twentieth time. I prefer eating it without a topping but Terry loves cherry pie filling on his.
It looks good!
Thank you!
Cheesecakes always look so elegant!
And tastes so good too! I yet have tried a New York Cheesecake, someday!
Old fashioned cheesecake is my favourite dessert, Diane. This looks so good!
Thank you Ab!
My favorite!
Me too, I love the plain cheesecake with fruit on top. I don’t care for the ones with fruit mixed in the cheesecake.
Yes, please!
Thank you Mary!
This may be an old-fashioned cheesecake, but it’s definitely up there with the modern ones! Looks yummy 🤗.
It really didn’t taste anything like today’s cheesecake. It tasted like tapioca pudding without the tapioca. It was good, I love tapioca pudding, but I like the modern day cheesecake much better.
All over this!
It was very simple but since it was an old recipe, I didn’t think it tasted like the cheesecake we eat today. More of a pudding taste.
