Did You Know – Bird Camera

A vibrant orange and black oriole perched on a bird feeder labeled 'BIRDSNAP', surrounded by sunflower seeds, with greenery and a gazebo visible in the background.

Did you know they make bird feeders with a camera? A few days ago was my birthday and I told my husband this is all I want. I received it a few weeks early because it was on sale.

The feeder/camera I have has video, a microphone to hear them chirping, a light that comes on when they land and night vision. It even has a solar panel to keep it working. If something like a squirrel gets into the feeder I can yell and send an alarm to scare it off. My husband didn’t appreciate it when I tried to scare him off. Haha

It’s only been a few weeks that I have had the feeder/camera and I have really enjoyed it. It is connected to my iPhone so I can be anywhere and watch them live.

Keep in mind the pictures won’t be super clear or centered and you need to keep the camera lens clean. Here are a few of my favorite pictures so far.

I love this picture, we see them fight all the time but not up close like this!

We just had a metal roof put on our house. This goofball takes the sunflower seeds on the roof and pecks them open. He did it in the gutters before.

This is a woodpecker, they eat our sunflower seeds all the time and always hanging from their toes.

He is too big so he decided to sit in the tray of seed and not share!

I think they know I am watching.

I don’t know why the Orioles keep landing here. I have two large liquid feeders for them and the hummingbirds. Also a third feeder with two individual cups of grape jelly and oranges which the sparrows and finches seem to think is for them too.

Date night out!

    • I didn’t even think about a hummingbird one. Someone also said they have a nesting box camera and they watch the bluebirds. As much as I hate electronics things like this make it worth it.

      • I agree with you on the technology–what a good use of it! I love the pictures–what a “hoot” these birds are.

  1. What a fantastic gift! I would keep an eye on the camera all day if I were you 😁. And you’re right Diane, the birds know you’re watching them … look how beautifully they pose for you! Lovely, I hope we get to see many more of your visitors in future posts!

    • It was the perfect birthday gift because I don’t need anything and if I do I buy it. I will confess that I ordered it myself, that way I know i get the one I want. Lol I am having so much fun watching them live too.

  2. I love these bird cameras! I don’t have one, but another blogger I follow does, and she regularly posts photos. The photos give the birds personality and show off how beautiful some birds are. Enjoy your new gift!

    • I agree, the camera does give them a personality. I am always excited to see what went on during the day. I also love to turn on the sound and listen to their song and chirping. It cracks me up when they get close with their eye. Lol

  3. Happy belated birthday, Diane! What an awesome gift to receive and the daily blessings it provides. The gift that keeps on giving! 🙏 The birds that visit your yard are so varied and beautiful. Please do share more updates about them in future posts!

  4. I love your Baltimore Oriole! I’ve never seen one. A friend of mine has a camera feeder and has posted some wonderful pictures on Facebook. I would love to have one, but I think between the raccoons and the squirrels, it would be destroyed on Day One. I’ll have to just enjoy yours and my friend Ruthann’s. Thanks for sharing!

    • I put my oriole feeders out the third week of May and they are here a few days up to a week later. The hummingbirds are usually a day behind. We love watching them with their vibrant color. They usually leave after the babies are gone so we really enjoy them when they are here. The hummingbirds usually stay until the first week in October.

    • Oh wow I didn’t know that. I do like to watch the live feed with eagles and other birds but I never looked at the bird house. Thank you and I bet you get some great pictures!

  5. First, Happy Belated, Birthday, Diane. What a great piece of technology. It would be wonderful to see them up close and personal. thanks for sharing these great images.

  6. Great pictures! These bird feeders are so fun!
We have a Bird Buddy hummingbird feeder and it takes good pictures too.

Our old camera bird feeder is on the fritz so may have to get a new one.
    We miss it !

    • Thank you Patti! I will be sad when I have to put it away for winter. My directions say to put it away if it will be 30º or lower. Once you get my age you buy whatever you want so this was the perfect unique gift. I will have to check out the Bird Buddy. Another follower said they have a bird house with a camera and theirs had blue birds in it.

  7. How fun is this Diane – and you can hear them as well. I didn’t know they had that many features, just thought they had the camera feature. A friend of mine has a cottage up north and they were going to install one up there as they already have bird feeders and they spend a lot of time up north. The birds in that “fight” shot … wow, the sparrow was bolting for its life and the red bird (Purple Finch or Grosbeak – not sure as I don’t see them around here) is watching the fight like that Michael Jackson meme of him eating a tub of popcorn. What a fun and thoughtful gift you got for your birthday!

    • Thank you Linda, the only complaint is from my husband. It appears the birds prefer my camera feeder more than his feeder. The problem is he has to refill my feeder every day where his was every three days. I do have to remove it for winter as it isn’t suppose to be outside once it hits 30º.

      • That’s funny Diane. I didn’t know that about bringing it in in the cold. I follow a local Wild Birds Unlimited on Facebook as it is my former HVAC tech owns the store and he/wife put one in their backyard and they show pics from it every so often. Now on Facebook recently I saw an ad for a birdbath with a camera. I haven’t seen Phil at Wild Birds Unlimited get one of those yet. Dine and bathe at the same location. 🙂

      • I have a bird bath but it gets so windy and driving rain so I didn’t want to put this camera there. Where the ponds were, we removed the ponds, filled the holes in and I made it my bird garden. Right now I have my oriole feeder with grape jelly and oranges. The other feeder is liquid and for the oriole’s and hummingbirds. The liquid feeder by the house has the woodpecker drinking from it. That is hilarious because he’s so big that when he lands on the feeder hanging by his toes then stretches his head and he drinks. I guess he likes that because it’s sweeter than bugs! Lol My camera feeder is place at the northeast back of the house and it is turned to get the least amount of rain then the other side of the post soaks up the sunshine with the solar power.

      • I don’t blame you for that as it might damage the camera – we have high winds almost every day, so you likely have the same type of winds, then you’d worry about it being damaged somehow. The woodpecker thinks he smart drinking the nectar instead of eating bugs. It would be my preference if I were a woodpecker – sweet, but are they crunchy ‘cuz crunchy is nice too!

  8. That is so cool, is that what it’s called? BirdSnap? I would like to get one. I love that you can use your phone with it AND chase the squirrels away! I think the Orioles want to be famous too so that’s why they sit in front of the camera 🙂

    • birdsnap® PAV- Smart Bird Feeder with Camera Solar Powered, 64GB Card & 2K HD Record Video Bird Camera Live with 5 DIY Add-ons, AI Identify Auto Capture, Ideal Gift for Birds Lover

I bought it from Amazon Susan and I love it. I don’t pay for the extra features because it does everything I want without the plan. You will love it. I have to put it away when it gets 30º for winter, that is the only thing I don’t like.

  9. I want to do this so badly! At the house we’re currently selling, we’re the only ones on the block with a fully landscaped yard and tons of trees—so naturally, we get all the birds. It gets a little bird-crazy back there, haha! I wish we had thought of setting up a camera like this sooner. Definitely adding it to the list for our next place!

    • You will love it! I get the biggest kick out of all the pictures, video and listening to them chirp and fight. They always arrive about 5:30 am and are gone by sunset. I am told you can get bird bath camera, bird house for blue birds, hummingbird feeder camera and bird seed with mine.

  10. Birds truly add sweetness to each season. They are love notes giving sound and reckoning to the rising day.☕️☕️☕️❤️☕️☕️☕️

    • I totally agree, The orioles and hummingbirds show up in spring the same week. I love sitting outside at sunset when they fly to their nest and chirp until dark. Have a great cup of coffee!
