Stovetop Blueberry Sauce

This is my favorite sauce to pour over pancakes and not because I grow my own blueberries either! Use it over ice cream, biscuits, oatmeal or over whatever you want.

Love blueberries 🫐 – I personally make syrup with mine.
Great idea!
My granddaughter, her American husband, and their daughter eat blueberries like sweets. Maybe I should try some.
Yes!!! You don’t know what you’re missing! I have two blueberry bushes in my yard and a freezer full of blueberries.
I don’t know why I was so stupid to read your post before lunchtime! It looks delicious … and I bet it tastes even better because it’s your own homegrown blueberries! I can only imagine how delicious this can be with Greek yogurt for breakfast. Thanks Diane, I’ll save this one!
Haha it will be worth the wait! This would be great with Greek yogurt!
I’ve made this kind of thing with various fruits like raspberry’s and strawberries ect, but never thought of trying blueberries. Great that you grow your own as well. I bet this is nice ono waffles with a dash of ice cream too.
Now THAT is a great idea Paul!
That looks so satisfying to make and looks so delicious! Love that you can also use it for other desserts, like ice cream. I never realized nor thought about using a corn starch slurry for something sweet! But it makes sense to also use it to thicken this up. Learned something cool today! 😊
Well you made my day. That was why I started my blog back in 2017, to teach something new to people.
Great to have blueberries in the freezer!
Yes and they keep a long time.
This looks so good! I live blueberries!
Thank you Nancy I do too.
Your blueberry topping on pancakes looks so good–and a nice change from maple syrup!
It really is a nice change. I still need my occasional maple syrup fix but this is definitely my favorite. Thank you Linda!
yummm
Thank you Beth!
Oh that’s nice – been years since I had pancakes. I remember us getting blueberry and strawberry Smuckers pancake syrup back in the day.
I used to buy their blueberry syrup until I started making my own.
I didn’t know they still made it – I just Googled and they have it at Kroger and Walmart and, of course, Amazon. The Smuckers blueberry syrup doesn’t have whole blueberries in it like yours though.
I think you’re right Linda, it’s been a long time since we bought it.
I figured with everyone watching sugar intake these days, they might have discontinued it, but apparently not. We bought the strawberry syrup too.
Falling in love with their syrup is what gave me the incentive to make my own. It is super cheap to make when you grow your own blueberries.
Yes, it is cheaper to make your own. That Smucker’s syrup was pricey even back then when we got it. We used to get it for Pancake Tuesday for sure. One day I’d like to go to the Metorparks to watch the maple syrup process. I thought of it this year, but Oakwoods Metropark is likely just as flooded as any other park right now due to the rapid snow/ice melt. Nothing in nature is in moderation any more.
I loved seeing the process but it shocked me how much sap it takes to get a small amount of syrup.
A fellow blogger who lived in Connecticut at the time, did a post on the maple syrup process. I was shocked to see all that work for that small amount of syrup. I used to put maple syrup in my oatmeal, but started putting a scoop of peanut butter in instead. My mom always put syrup in hot cereals.
It’s very interesting for sure, such a slow process. I never liked real maple syrup, but Terry does, give me Mrs Butterworth. Lol
Real maple syrup is very sweet, I’ll agree. When we had pancakes or waffles we got the smallest bottle of Canadian syrup, but it didn’t last very long.
Sounds tasty and looks delicious!
Thank you so much Kevin!
What a great and tasty use for blueberries, Diane. It can enhances the flavors of so many different foods!
Thank you Tanja!
Your blueberry sauce recipe looks easy and delicious. I have bookmarked it for August when fresh blueberries arrive in NJ.
Thank you Bernadette, my grandson loves this too. Grandpa makes him pancakes and I make the sauce.
What a delicious wakeup!
Thank you!
