Easy Kielbasa Cabbage Noodles Recipe

Similar to the recipe called Haluski, this is a complete meal made on the stovetop in about 30 minutes. Made with cabbage, onion, noodles and kielbasa, this has a delicious flavor that is even tasty as leftovers, if you have any. You could add bacon instead of kielbasa, both or leave the meat out altogether.

Cook the noodles al dente in salted water, according to the package directions.

Drain noodles, return to the pan, then toss with butter until melted.

Slice the kielbasa, dice the onions and chop the cabbage into 1″ pieces discarding the solid hard core in the center.

In a large pot over medium heat, cook the onions in oil until tender.

Stir the cabbage into the onions.

Cook until the cabbage is wilted, tossing frequently.

Add the kielbasa and toss to combine, cooking just until kielbasa is hot.

Add salt, pepper and garlic powder to taste. Add the noodles and toss, cooking about 2 minutes to make sure everything is hot.

Then serve!

Ingredients

  • 8 oz egg noodles
  • 4 Tbsp butter (1/2 a stick)
  • 1 small head green cabbage
  • 1 small onion
  • 2 Tbsp vegetable oil
  • 14 oz smoked kielbasa
  • 1 tsp salt or to taste
  • 1/2 tsp pepper or to taste
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder

  1. Cabbage and salty and fattier meat are a wonderful combination. I like to have chopped cabbage with corned beef. I could see this being a great juxtaposition of flavors too!

  2. Now I am hankering for kielbasa. Every year I look at those smoky links thinking I’ll get them for a Christmas treat and put them in the crockpot, then figure the salt is high and I put them back.

    • Kielbasa is my granddaughter’s favorite meat. When she stays here we have it for a meal. Go ahead and have some then drink extra water to flush out the salt. I was told that by Weight Watcher leader decades ago. Lol

      • My mother made kielbasa and cabbage occasionally or also sliced in au gratin potatoes. So good. That’s good to know. I do eye them every year as a Christmas treat as I only have chicken/fish now and that’s only from those packages on a sandwich. Years ago I worked with some girls and they signed up for Weight Watchers right after New Years for their NY’s resolution. So they would eat very sparsely with salads and hard-boiled eggs, cottage cheese, then had weigh-in night and the next day they’d pig out … go to McDonald’s for lunch and the lunch table was all about burgers, fries, apple pies and milkshakes. 🙂

  3. We have kielbasa and cabbage every year on January 1! But we have it with potatoes and carrots. Sometimes French bread and butter, and wine. Yummers!

    • I never heard of having that because in our area we all have pork roast and sauerkraut. Some of the comments said they have what you do too. They both are a delicious meal to me!

  4. Kielbasa … I’ll have to go for the bacon (never heard of kielbasa). We don’t use cabbage often in our kitchen (apart from the normal cabbage salad), so maybe it’s time to do something different with it and follow your recipe.
