Cherry Crisp Oat Crumble Recipe

Cherry season has ended but my frozen sour cherries have not! A classic Cherry Crisp recipe with old fashioned oats crumb topping baked in a 8” x 8” dish that’s perfect for dessert or a sweet treat. Top with a scoop of vanilla ice cream and really wow your family!

Spray an 8” x 8” baking dish with cooking oil.

In a large bowl toss the cherries with lemon juice, sugar, cornstarch, vanilla extract and almond extract.

Pour cherry mixture into prepared baking dish.

In another bowl combine oats, flour, brown sugar, cinnamon and salt.

With a fork stir in the melted butter until wet and crumbly.

Sprinkle oat mixture evenly on top of cherry filling. Bake in a preheated 350º oven for 45 minutes or until the top is golden brown and the filling is bubbly.

Let cool at least 15 minutes then serve. Delicious with a scoop of vanilla ice cream on top!

Ooh, YUM! I love cherry desserts, and this one looks amazing. I’ll have to make it sometime for my brother-in-law (he also loves cherries) and me. And I guess we could share with the rest of the family 😉
Make two, one for the family and the other for you two! 🤣
Just at the moment, with my appetite returning, I could do with that (less sugar) for breakfast
I wish I lived closer I would bring you some! Thank you Derrick.
This looks delicious Diane
Thank you Sheree
This looks delicious, so quick and easy to do as well!
It reminds me of what we ate as a child. Simple to make with common ingredients. Thank you Paul!
Bet it was delicious with those sour cherries.
It didn’t last long and we love cherries. Thank you!
Thank you Ned!
That looks great!
Thank you so much!
Looks yummy.
Thank you Susanne!
What a lovely crisp!
Thank you!
I’m a huge cherry fan and this sounds delish
We are too Beth, I put 10#’s in the freezer. Thank you
that looks AMAZING!
Thank you it was all gone the next day. Lol
Yum – it looks delicious. Funny, I was thinking a scoop of ice cream would be nice too when I saw the photo and then you mentioned ice cream. 🙂
I didn’t have any! Terry went grocery shopping yesterday and now I do, a day late and a dollar short! 🤣
Now you have to make it again – I know that is an awful thought!
I have a ton of cherries in the freezer so that won’t be a problem! Lol
Re-runs are nice when they are delicious! My mom used to buy a lot of blueberries when they were cheaper in the Summer, freeze them on cookie sheets and package them up to make hot blueberry muffins on Winter weekends. Those were the days!
That’s how I freeze my homegrown blueberries too!
They don’t stick together that way.
Great recipe! I always make apple crumble but I do love cherries so should try this recipe
We love cherry anything! When we visit Amish Country we bring home 6 cherry hand pies! Thank you Susan!
Thanks for sharing. I am always looking for oatmeal dessert ideas.
You’re welcome Bernadette, enjoy Your Labor Day.
That is a nice way to dress up and enjoy oats, Diane. So sad that cherry season and summer are over but long live the frozen sour cherries! 😋
The frozen fruit in a dessert tastes as good as fresh. This recipe uses sour cherries so I love freezing them, however, sweet cherries we buy a lot of when they are in season since they don’t appeal to me frozen.
Hmm, it must be great to find cherries in your freezer when they are no longer in season! And what an easy recipe – it gets a “yummy vote” from me!
I’ve realised that frozen fruit makes a delicious compote (especially when using various berries), so in this case frozen sure works just as well as fresh!
I keep cherries and my homegrown blueberries in the freezer. It is really nice to pull them out a whip up a recipe. I have never made a compote, using various berries must taste delicious!
