Did You Know – Avocado’s

Did you know that the Avocado is a fruit, not a vegetable, and it is one of the few fruits that contain healthy unsaturated fat? These fats are what help to lower our bad LDL cholesterol when eaten in place of saturated fat.

Avocados are usually harvested before they are ripe. When you purchase them, if they are not ripe yet, place them in a paper bag with an apple or a banana for 2-3 days. It will be ready to eat when the stem comes off easily and when it can be pressed in slightly with your finger.

One avocado contains about 240 calories, 13 grams carbohydrates, 3 grams protein, 22 grams fat, 10 grams fiber, 11 milligrams sodium and contains no cholesterol. One serving of a medium avocado (half of the fruit) has more potassium than a medium banana, 487 mg in the avocado and 422 mg in the banana.

The monounsaturated fat in avocados is stable in high heat and can be used not only in cooking but also in baking. Pureed avocado can be substituted for butter or oil in baking recipes, using a 1:1 ratio (1 cup butter = 1 cup avocado). What a great way to sneak something healthy into your recipes.

Did you know you that you can mash a ripe avocado and use it as a facial mask as it has a high content of hydrating oils and vitamin E? That is the only way I would be able to use an avocado as I am not fond of avocados, shocking I know!

  1. 💜 Yup EveryOne, same goes for tomatoes 🍅 🙃 🙄 😒 😋 😅 🍅 anything with a stone or a seed is fruit while vegetable reproduction is a bit of a mystery

    …💛💚💙…

  2. Avocados are the best. Love making avocado toast from time to time. In some cultures, it’s called “butter fruit.”

  3. I’m not fond of them either, Diane. I have a sensitivity to bananas, so eating avocados would probably very good for me. I wonder if the avocado is an acquired taste. My home economics teacher brought one to class one day and encouraged each of us to eat a small slice. I’d never seen one before. I doubt anyone in the class had. I know the avocado is touted as a brain food, so I should eat it. Your post today has encouraged me to try harder!

  4. Thank you very much for all the information about the delicious avo! We really love this FRUIT 🙂 and like to enjoy it with our breakfast (you are missing out Diane)! We live in avocado world at the moment and often find them at cheap prices in the store … go avo’s!!

  5. Great info, Diane! I may try it on my face soon to fight the wrinkles creeping in. They are delicious and I didn’t know about the butter substitution– much healthier than butter.

  6. Not over keen on taste but yes did know they are healthy fruit not knowing how much they are so good .Did try and like Guacamola then made if these advocado fruits

  7. It should not surprise you that I’ve only had avocado when going for Mexican food (and that’s been a long time since I had Mexican food). I know avocado toast is a big thing with young folks.

  8. I didn’t love avocados as much either, Diane. But I’ve been trying to eat more healthily and decided to give it a go.

What I’m doing is creating a paste from Avocado-ripe, of course, onion, garlic, salt, pepper and adding fresh parsley at the end. It’s great and it tastes amazing, I recommend it!

Also, thanks for the mask idea, I didn’t know that!

Have a great weekend ahead ❤️.

    • I have to admit, I have only eaten avocado plain and as guacamole dip, didn’t like either one. Good for you for experimenting and finding a way to like it!!!
