Did You Know – M & M’s
Did you know M & M’s are named after the businessmen who created them, Forrest Mars and Bruce Murrie, who apparently didn’t have the best relationship. Mars leveraged Murrie out of his 20% share of the business before it became the biggest-selling sweet in the US, bad luck on his part!

I really enjoyed that post GP! I bet the M & M’s were a welcomed treat! I know you stated they could buy Coke for less than it sold for but why did they have to pay at all? Back then didn’t Coke only come in bottles? I remember returning pop bottles for five cents. Thank you for your link, excellent!
I suppose that was the deal they made with the government. I remember one of dad’s letters while aboard ship, saying he paid for a coke but it was warm.

What was luck for one was devastating for the other. I wonder why they didn’t put 2 M’s on each piece.
I always like these food tidbits Diane. It reminds me of the show “Unwrapped” that my mom and I watched years ago. So, as I was reading this post, I thought “I’ve never heard of Murrie, only Mars” as a big candy company. I believe it – M&Ms used to only com like yours in the photo, candy-coated, melt-in-your-mouth-not-in-your-hands as the commercial went. They are like Peeps marshmallow treats … lots of different flavors and variations.
Loved Unwrapped too Linda. I still watch a show similar to that but right now I can’t think of the name. Lol
My favorite was the Thanksgiving Unwrapped where they showed how they made all the fixin’s for Thanksgiving dinner.
I love them all, even the factory how it’s made ones.
I never saw all the seasons as I cancelled my cable, but I know you can watch it on Amazon through one of their pay streaming channels.
All we have is Direct TV and Netflix. I refuse to pay over $100 for cable. These have so many food shows and Alaska shows to keep me busy. 😁
I cancelled my cable TV in 2010 (even before blogging). My TV is very old, a 19-inch TV with the back that sticks out. I don’t even have it plugged in. I have been watching a few shows on Amazon Prime and with my Comcast I get the Peacock channel free and it has ads. But it is free and I want to watch Yellowstone as it is on there – when I will watch it is anyone’s guess. 🙂 I decided to try reading more this year and was doing well the first two weeks of January, but am behind now.
Before we put in Direct TV we bought 2 of these plastic box antenna’s for outside. We got all the basic channels and some from Canada and it was all free. The antennas cost around $80 each, we aimed them in different directions to get more channels. We even bought my MIL one and she still uses hers. They kept raising our cable about every 3 months and I was sick of all that money being wasted. We love Direct TV and the price is nothing like cable was. I am getting like you, I like the quiet but now that Terry will be retiring that won’t happen!🤣
I bought my mom a 7-inch TV for her room after the FTC made changes and her little B&W was no longer good – we got something to use it, but the gizmo went on top of the TV and it had a rounded top. That is good to know – I wish I could watch the news. I try to watch it online sometimes after I finish at work. They just raised my internet again last month. I have Comcast and since I don’t have cable or phone bundles with them, it is now $117.00/month!
Mine is $69.70 for internet only.
That’s a deal! Who are you with? I have had Comcast since I got my first computer in 2000 – I waited until right after Y2K so it wouldn’t have issues.

We always mix our M&M’s with peanuts and raisins as a snack on our hiking trips. Didn’t know the story behind these sweets, thanks for sharing.
They actually sell trail mix serving size bags of those only with almonds and cashews too. I never buy them because the only nuts I like are macadamia and peanuts, Oh and my husband! 🤣 You should market your mix they are everything I love!
