Copycat KFC Coleslaw

Cabbage, carrots and onion chopped fine in a food processor with added homemade slaw dressing. This is the perfect make ahead side dish for your Thanksgiving meal.

This is another recipe I saved from a copycat book that I took out at the library, a few years back, and I didn’t mark down the title or the author. If you know this recipe and have the book, let me know so I can give them credit.

In a food processor chop the cabbage, carrots and

onion fine (separately) then place into a large bowl.

Combine with a large spoon.

In a medium bowl whisk the

rest of the ingredients together.

Pour the slaw dressing over the cabbage mixture.

Toss well, cover and refrigerate for at

least four hours, toss again then serve.

  1. Looks like KFC coleslaw indeed! Will be looking forward to seeing what you whip up for Thanksgiving in a few weeks!

    • The dressing was delicious I thought. I also liked the coleslaw the same day I made it but it seemed too mushy the next day. Probably due to the fine chopping with the food processor. I think eating it after 4 hours but the same day was the best for us. I hope you like it.

  2. I worked at KFC for a couple of weeks when I was first out of high school and we used to get these huge vats of coleslaw and had to mix the dressing with a huge paddle. We had this plastic glove that went up to our elbow and you had to mix the dressing into the chopped up cabbage. It was hard work! My mother loved coleslaw, the more rustic-looking, the better.

      • I don’t know but it was quite the process back in 1973 getting it mixed together. My mom was the coleslaw eater in the family, though we used to go to an Italian farm market and they had coarsely cut coleslaw with some broccoli bits and carrots in it which they used a vinegar and oil dressing and I liked that a lot. We’d get a baguette, some deli lunch meat and pile the coleslaw on top.
