WP Editor
Well it looks like I might be done blogging for a while. WP finally switched me to the new editor and I have no idea how to write my recipes. I will keep trying to figure it out so please be patient with me.

You should be able to use the classic editor in the dashboard
Nothing is working but thanks.
Hit the plus sign and choose “classic block.’ Everything inside that block will work just like the old editor did.
I got it thank you so much!!!!!!
NO!!! You can do it! I wonder if that means I’ve been switched, too!
Mine just switched over today, what a shock. I guess they sent out an email but I didn’t get it. I will figure it out thanks to a lot of advice from my wonderful blogging friends.
Oh no! Hope to continue to see you.
You will as soon as I figure this crazy thing out! lol
No!! I hope not!!
Thank you Becky! I have calmed down and had so much advice and encouraging words that I will not give up. Just be patient with me. 🧡
I write them in a separate document and then I copy and paste 🤪
My theme makes my recipe card when I code it. I don’t think it will work by copy and paste. I will figure this out I have worked too many hours to give up! Thanks!
Oh…I believe you need to use the shortcode block and copy in the code of the recipe 😉
The new classic editor took my theme and I was able to code the recipe card….yeah!
Diane,
I prefer the classic editor, too. It’s what I’m used to.
Here’s the instructions I found:
How to install the Classic Editor plugin
Log in to your WordPress website. When you’re logged in, you will be in your ‘Dashboard’.
Click on ‘Plugins’. On the left-hand side, you will see a menu. …
Click on ‘Add New’. …
Search for ‘Classic editor’. …
Find the Classic Editor plugin and install it. …
Click ‘Install Now’. …
Click ‘Activate Plugin’.
OMG thank you so much for that! Does it come in every time the old way then?
You can switch back to the classic. Here are the instructions:
If you’d rather stick with the Classic editor experience — the one you used before we introduced the WordPress.com editor a few years ago — no worries. You have two options:
You can use the Classic block. Within the new WordPress block editor you’ll find the Classic block, which works just like the editor you used before we introduced the WordPress.com editor several years ago.
You can opt to use the Classic editor. Not ready to try the new WordPress editor? No worries — you have the option to use the Classic editor in WP Admin.
Thank you for your comment Lynn! I will try the WP Admin. but will that remain? Is that is going to disappear down the road too? I am not very computer savvy and would rather go to WP Admin. though. I really appreciate your help. ❤
It did that to me but I eventually figured it out. And then I just got to where I just didn’t post anymore.
But at least you still comment. That is my favorite part of blogging. This is the only thing I do for me. I do for EVERYONE else every single day but this is my time. I WILL figure it out.
Makes me feel bad…
I know you, you will be back someday. Take your time, you will know when it’s the right time.
A classic case of “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.”
Exactly! But I will get this, one way or another.
I have zero doubts.
In the left hand corner, click on “My Site”.
1) In the menu section on the left hand side, click WP Admin
2)In WP Admin, click on Post and than Add New.
3)In the block view. The right hand corner, there are 3 dots. Click on them and scroll down. There should be a switch to classic view option
I hope this helps
Thank you-Thank you-Thank you Christopher!!!! I will give that a try. You’re the best! ❤
Diane, I have not been able to reply to you on WP for ever. Don’t understand what’s happening.

That’s crazy I wonder why? Maybe it had to do with this new editor????
This is a test to see if I can send you a comment
Yes you can! I won’t stop blogging but need to read, read and read how to do this!
Same, it’s terrible, I agree. Very NOT user friendly.
It took me months to figure out how to create my web site. I am not going to give up! Lol
If you can figure out why images aren’t as easy to load and move around, let me know!
I was able to get the pictures posted but when I tried to change the size I had problems. So I figure out if I click the corner of the picture I could manually make it smaller by dragging the corner up. Does that make sense?
Yes, me too! Impossible to change sizes like before but if you play with it a bit, you can. I have no idea how WordPress thought this was an upgrade. It’s VERY bulky and hard to use, there is no flow.
Right and when I did change the size of my picture it moved all my words under the picture!
SO ANNOYING. Very negative when we’re trying to use language and photos to convey something.
I hope you are able to figure it out. I would miss not only your recipes but you as well. I love to see what you create with your delicious meals.
Awwww thank you Christy. I have been given lots of tips and encouragement and I WILL figure this out.
I’ve been able to just cut and paste from my word processor and all formatting is preserved. Insertion of photos is easy. Hang in there, you’ll get it. I enjoy reading your recipes even though I don’t cook.
Thank you for your words of encouragement. I will get this, it may take a bit of time but I will!
You’ve probably already done this but just check out how it’s done in google …
I hope this gets sorted!!

Donna I have had so many people comment and offer advice and help that I won’t quit. I have had links sent to me with information too. I just need to read and figure this thing out and I will! Just be patient with me…lol
I just chatted with them and apparently you have to go through “WP Admin” and “pages” and all to get back to classic editor. Has to be done every time. Major drag. I didn’t do recipes. so not sure. I managed to figure out how to load pictures on this new one which is mostly what I need. Though I have no idea how to hyperlink anything now. This looks very complicated.
Thank you Lynn! It will be a pain but like anything else, we’ll get use to it……we have no choice! I will do that and eventually figure this out.❤
Hi Diane,
When you log into wordpress, add wp-admin to the end; for me this is https://sevencookiesapps.wordpress.com/wp-admin.
Then from the verticial menu on the left, select Posts > All Posts which shows all your posts (recipes etc). When you go up to Add New button, there is a drop-down arrow, select classic editor.
Then do you posts as usual or as close to usual as possible.
This is what I use, I am not keen on their new block editor (it does have a classic block) but I prefer this way which enables you still to use the old editor that you (and I) are used to.
Oh God bless you Paul! I can’t wait to try it now. I can’t thank you enough.💕💕💕💕💕💕
No worries, this is a picture of how to get to the classic editor. It is not as pretty the layout but the functionality is the same, i.e. Type your message, add a heading (maybe) and add in some pictures, click publish.

That helps too. I really, really appreciate your help! Thank you
Yes, that’s the way I have been doing it for years, and it still works beautifully. /wp-admin has never let me down!
I just checked it out. I will see if that way is easier for me too. Thank you so much!
You can do this Diane; check out the WP tutorials.
I had a lot of problems with WP on Sunday….couldn’t do a damn thing. It’s fine now.
The grandkids come Thursday thru Sunday so I have all day tomorrow to look at it. Today just freaked me out, I think I was in shock! lol I will get it eventually. Thanks for the advice with the tutorials and vote of confidence June!
((Hugs!)) You’ll get this figured out!
Thank you Jennifer I definitely will, it just may take some time.
No no, don’t quit, it’s not that hard! I thought I’d never get it, but I’m getting it. Just keep trying, let me know if there’s any way I can help. 🙂
Thank you SO much! I definitely will, I saved your comment. Once the lightbulb goes on I will probably see how silly it was to freak out! I just need some time to read and try it. 💕
I’m dreading this moment too, I understand. here’s hoping you find a way around it or into it
Thanks Beth they just changed mine over today. I will figure it out but it may take some time.
Noooooooo!!! You must find a way. What specifics about your recipe are you having difficulty with? We’re here to help troubleshoot!
You are the best! My theme is what creates my recipe card but I have to code it. (If I figured that out I have to be able to figure this out too). Please be patient, I have a lot of reading and trial and error to do but I won’t give up. So many people have offered advice, thank you for your offer to help I may need it. lol
Good luck. We’re here to help. I’m sure you will find the recipe – so good speak – to success soon!
Oh, no….I look so forward to your posts.
Please be patient I am going to get this if it kills me! lol Why is it so hard for us when we get older…lol
I’m so sorry to hear that. Sadly, you aren’t the first person to feel this way.
I know I am getting many comments like that! I’m not giving up yet!
I’m glad to hear that! WordPress really needs to fix this! Blogging should be enjoyable.
Right and I pay them to blog…go figure! 🤣😂🤣
That’s awful! But not surprising in today’s world!
Oh bummer.
Not giving up yet Peggy. Getting lots of help from other bloggers so I just need some time to figure this out.
Diane – did you see this post in Reader last week? Maybe there is a problem – contact WP and ask their help.
https://wordpress.com/read/feeds/25823/posts/2858703786
Saved that one too Linda! I have a lot of reading to do. I can’t thank you enough for all of your help dear friend! 💕
You’re welcome Diane – I am sure others made suggestions by now. Take it slow to avoid frustration – when I went to the Block Editor, Hugh had said to make a few practice posts … do all the steps, to add text and photos, play with the formatting a little and hit “preview” and then delete it unless you want to use it … I did a practice post like he said. This link I believe had a video for it. For me, with everything, I’m better watching a video … too much stuff in a manual just flips me right out. I don’t want you closing down this labor of love any more than I would want to close down mine. 💕
I was told by our wonderful blogging friends how to still use the classic version. It isn’t exactly the same and still challenging but I can post at least! Maybe some day I will get out of my comfort zone and try the Block Editor but for now, this will work.
That’s great and I think it is some type of hybrid version of Classic and Block, but people are preferring it to the Block Editor, especially if they like to do slideshows. You can’t do slideshows in the Block Editor. I only went to the Block Editor as I thought Windows 10 and a new accounting system was coming up soon so I didn’t want to be slammed learning new things all at once … if we wait much longer, there will be a Windows 11 and a new edition of the accounting system. 🙂
That’s crazy you will completely skip Windows 10…lol
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
I am getting a lot of advice and encouragement. Just hang in there with me until I figure it out. I don’t know what I would do if I didn’t post recipes!!!!
I follow Hugh’s News and Views and have gleaned some valuable info on various blogging technological topics. In fact, it was Hugh’s column last April that prompted me to go to the Gutenberg Editor last year (that and I thought we were going to Windows 10 within a few weeks – that has still not happened at work). Anyway, Hugh is very helpful and is a troubleshooter as well. Here is his post he just did on the change – as I understand it, it is a hybrid this “Classic Block Editor” – I hope it helps you out – don’t want to see you leave us:
https://wordpress.com/read/feeds/38235298/posts/2866034515
Thank you so much Linda! I saved the link and will look at it when I’m not so tired and frustrated. I am getting a lot of tips so in time I should be able to figure it out.
OK good – yes, Hugh is really helpful Diane and you can reach out to him and he’ll troubleshoot with you. He is in the UK though, so mind the time difference. I reached out when I was sending a few links of old blog posts to fellow bloggers when something came up – went to two different blog posts and they were missing pictures. Neither Hugh nor I can figure out why – WordPress suggested a session where we are both “in the WP screen simultaneously” but I’ve not done that yet. They told me what to do and I said “I am afraid I’ll wipe out text or pictures – can I pay to have it done?” No, you can’t but you can do screen time with them.
Makes me want to scream! Lol
I hate learning new things Diane – every time I update the Windows 10 laptop sitting on the stovetop, I curse at it – I love the interface of Windows 7 and have been using it for 11 years. The older I get, the more resistant to change I am.
Me too!
Don’t give up! You’ll find a way 😊
Yes I will, I just paid for another year of WP last month I have to…lol
Oh no! I hope you can fix it!
I’m getting lots of tips from my wonderful blogging friends. Just hang in there until I figure it out. Thanks Kristen!
You are a person of firm determination so you will certainly succeed in posting your mouth watering recipes.Just try once or twice.Thank you very much .🌹👍🙏
I love your optimism!!! I will get it eventually. This old lady never gives up….lol
Exactly,I knew it very well ..that’s the attitude of a winner.Take care.🌹👍🙏
Oh no I hope you are able to figure it out so you don’t have to leave.
I won’t give up just wait for me until I figure it out. I just paid for another year! lol
I will be here!!
Tried it twice before. Sucks. So far, letting me continue with classic. I think you can call Cust Serv and they’ll explain how to fiddle the login. Though they may have taken that away, now, as well.
That’s just it, they keep changing things. I may end up calling but first I need some time to play around with it. I couldn’t figure it out when I tried it a few months ago but a lot of blogging friends are giving me tips (like you) so maybe once I read them all it will make sense….I hope! Thank you 💕
You can still do recipes. Type your recipe in a Google ( it’s free) or Word doc (if you have Microsoft Word), then copy and paste into a WordPress draft. Make sure you skipped a line where you will want to insert a photo before pasting. It will automatically paste in blocks. Your titles will become headings in your new post draft. To add pictures between recipe steps (blocks), hover your cursor over the center just below each section to reveal a plus sign, then click on it and in the pop-up window click on “image” and follow the prompts. I don’t recall that changing too much from the classic version. If you still have problems, send me your email in a private message and I can put together some notes to help you via email over the week end. 🙂
The notes would be using the WordPress draft, not doing the copy and paste thing.. It’s really easy, once you know how to do it. 🙂
Thanks but the recipe card is part of the theme I use. If I copy and paste they can’t print a recipe card. When I get far enough to figure out the post I will see what the recipe card brings…lol
🙂
Woo hoo my theme still works and I was able to code the recipe card. Life is good!
Robin I can’t thank you enough. You have offered to help me before and that means so much to me! You are so kind. ❤❤❤
❤❤❤
So happy I figured it out Robin. Thanks again!💕💕💕
They switched me also. It took 10 minutes to figure out the new features. They set it up for each paragraph to its individual block. The advantage is the ability to control editing within each paragraph. It’s very easy. Hope this helps.🤗👣
I saw that but I thought it had to be in block form which I know nothing about. I will play around with it and see if I can see what you’re talking about. I couldn’t find my previously saved posts or figure out how to get to my pictures. Thank you for your help Georgetta!
With the updated version there are so many more features now available for our blogs, such as fotms etc.
😆
❤
Noooooooo! I hope it works out, I need your recipes. I need to see the great food! I will be very made at WP if it does not work out! (fingers crossed)
I don’t give up easily. Just hang in there with me until I do. Thanks Tierney!
I’ll admit that I was literally in tears on Saturday morning as I tried to post my blog but found myself mired in that mess, trying to figure it out. I finally got it posted but I do NOT like the new editor. I could not for the life of me figure out how to switch back to classic editor even though I looked at the directions. I hope you can figure out how to still post your recipes and blog! I hope we can switch back to classic editor. 🙁
I feel for you Patty! In time I hopefully will figure it out. My blog is my hobby and the only thing I do for me. I don’t want to lose it. They just switched mine today.
Don’t give up! There is online chat or help articles. We need you!! Good luck!
I won’t but I don’t know how long it will take me to figure it out. I knew this was coming but I am not sure I can figure it out. The older you get the harder it gets…lol Thank you for your encouragement Betty!
I hit roadblocks tonight too. 🙃
Right I couldn’t even figure out how to post a picture let alone my recipe card. I was so frustrated I just quit for today. I had half of a blog completely done and when I hit save it deleted everything.
Save the draft with just a title in the new editor, then go to the drafts in all posts and click on edit in classic editor and it will load what you’re used to. Not sure how long it will last though.
Thank you Felicia! I did a screen shot of your comment. ❤
Good luck! 🙂
I’m so happy I have the basics down so it can only get better now! Thanks again for your help Felicia, I REALLY appreciate it! ❤
You’re welcome, Diane! Change isn’t a bad thing, it just needs to make sense. 🙂
I don’t know why they can’t just leave things alone. By the time I’ve finally learned how to use it they change it again. Good luck with your recipes! 🙂
Thanks Michelle I’m sure I will get it eventually. Today was just such a shock and it didn’t work for me so I had to quit for the day. Tomorrows another day.
I am also not so happy with block editor, Diane. Till date I am able to use Classic editor. But yes I am also not going to give up. Hope we will be comfortable with the new one too.
All my blogging family has been SO helpful and they talked me through using the new classic editor and I got it! Now I hope they don’t take that away too,
Oh no! Tried it, didn’t like it but…………………will have to lump it.
Hahaha me too!
Please don’t give up! It’ll be back to cornflakes and sandwiches for me otherwise!
Just for you I stayed up until I figured it out. I do not want you to starve! 🤣
Not with these recipies! But like you, my first bout with the new editor was a hit and miss affair!
I figure the hardest part is done. Just happy to post.
Bummer! That’s not good, Diane! 😳 You’ll figure it out! 🙂

Thanks for your support, I got it….whew!
Yay!!!
You’ve got this! If I can figure out a whole new website, Instagram, Canva, Planoly, BigVu, InShot, not to mention Etsy, YOU can learn their new version.
Believe in yourself. Take a week or 2 and play with it. Contact WP. Their Happiness Managers will set you up.
I stayed up until 2:30 am and got it! It’s not perfect but it works! Thank you for your vote of confidence Sue! 💕💕💕
I’ve been dreading WP doing the same to me. I have tried the new interface and detest it. It is ugly and so difficult to use. Are you sure that you don’t still have the option to use the old interface? I started a new blog and found to my horror that they had put me on the new version, but I found that when I click on Posts to go to the Posts page, right at the top of the page where it says Posts there’s a drop down arrow that lets me select the old version. If you just click on New Post from the menu on the left, it will default to the new version, but by going to Posts and clicking on the down arrow you can stick with the old interface. It may be that they are taking that out too, but for now I can still use it.
Yes that worked! It is a new classic editor and still different with things I need to figure out but it is the same format, pretty much. I made my first post and although it isn’t exactly like I would like it to look like, it will work! Thank you Andie!
I used to write my posts on Word for Windows and now Pages on Mac, and then just copy and paste them into WordPress when I’m done. I’ve always found that easiest. I’ve never used WordPress editor hardly – apart from justifying the text and adding images. Wasn’t aware they were changing the WP editor, I’ve not had an update with new version yet so will wait and see what it looks like.
Good luck! I did get it figured out….mostly! Thank you for your advice!!!!
Thank you! We’ve still not got the new WP editor in the UK yet, will keep a look out for it. Sorry for the late reply, been two days without WiFI.
Oh no!!! We would go crazy!
LOL I know what you mean, its surprising how much we depend on Wifi for everything now isn’t it. I tired to look at it as a digital detox for a couple of days. 🙂
