How to Freeze Blueberries
My homegrown Blueberries are booming again this year. I am picking almost a gallon of berries every 2 days! It takes me almost a half hour daily to pick Blueberries from just two bushes that are over 25 years old. Every year I say this must be the last year but they are like the Energizer Bunny and keep growing and growing.

You can still freeze small quantities of blueberries. They make great smoothies and some people like to eat them frozen….like my granddaughter! Enjoy the rest of your weekend!

My granddaughter gets into the frozen berries almost every week! She loves to eat them frozen. I love to use them in baked goods!

We have a little orchard of blueberry bushes that give so much every year. We’ve taken to inviting people over to pick their own! They enjoy it as much as we do!

No, our neighbor has a much bigger blueberry field than us and he sells his as part of his livelihood. So we keep ours for friends and family 🙂
I always have a problem with blueberries getting mushy. How do I keep the fresh in the freezer?
Mine get soft in the freezer too but they hold their shape. I don’t freeze them to eat them like when they are freshly picked. I use them for things like smoothies, pies, cakes, breads etc. However, my granddaughter loves to eat them frozen!

So far I have about 6 quarts in the freezer and they are still coming on strong. One of my favorite ways to use them is to add them to banana bread. Have you ever tried that?

Yes, despite our wacky weather this year we it has been a great year for berries – strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, and currants have all done well. Our grape vines are loaded with grapes as well. Thanks for the recipe. I book marked it.
I would love to have blueberry bushes that big. I tried growing one once but it did not do well. I’m going to try the blueberry lemon bread

You’re welcome! I love to put them frozen into my smoothies. Since they are frozen they give the smoothie the slushy affect.
It is nice when you do not need to add ice.
I see warm blueberry muffins on your breakfast table in the middle of Winter!
I made peach dumplings (tomorrows post) and I wanted to make a blueberry dessert next but then my raspberries were ready to pick so I made a syrup with them. Too many sweets at once…lol I love using my fruit to bake in the winter! I make blueberry muffins and freeze them. That way I take out one at a time and don’t eat them as fast.
The mulberries in the Park are ripening fast – some women walkers eat them right off the trees and bushes – I see squirrels and groundhogs munching on those berries up in the tree. We used to do that too with the muffin, otherwise you are too tempted to have another (and another, etc.). 🙂
Wow mulberries have been done here for about a month. Isn’t is fascinating how different it is just being across the lake.
It is Diane – I just noted yesterday that they are not ripe yet – took some pics of them. I saw zero squirrels yesterday – not even a single on the neighborhood. I hope they are not sick (or worse) from that horrible heat wave. Hopefully I see a few this morning.

I suspect this last few days of heat likely sent them back to the trees though – we are getting a cool spell again after Wednesday (thankfully).

Do blueberry bushes usually die at old age? I never knew that!
They can live for 40-50 years if taken care of properly.
