Brown Sugar – Homemade
Making Brown Sugar is as easy as it is fun! Only two ingredients and the back of a spoon is all you need. I don’t use a lot of Brown Sugar except at Christmas cookie season. This is nice because you can make a small fresh batch or a large batch for nowhere near the cost of Brown Sugar that you buy in the store.
I originally posted this recipe in January and with cookie season upon us I thought you may like to see it again!

Sweet!
Now this is awesome… how a single ingredient can turn sugar into brown sugar is just awesome! Definitely worth trying
Holy crap that is easy! I honestly didn’t know how brown sugar was made. lol I was like, do you brown the sugar? lol
Wow, great to know. I love using brown sugar and use it in more then Christmas Cookies, 🙂 Thank you for sharing the recipe! Happy Baking, janice http://www.fiftyfatandfabulous
I never thought brown sugar could be homemade!!! It never occurred to me. You helped me make a huge paradigm shift!
Thank you! I’m so glad you shared this again!
Reblogged this on Alessandriacity.
Thank you for reposting this. I’m dumbfounded as to how easy this is to make.
Ah! brown sugar who come you look so good .Rollin Stones . Ill try this recipe as I use a bit of brown sugar for cakes each week as I love chocolate cake my way.
That’s how you make brown sugar?!!? I always have molasses on hand as I use it in molasses cookies. So I’ve been buying brown sugar for no reason! 🙂
Yes you have! Simple and so tasty!
You are a fountain of info Diane … first of all how to make icing sugar, now brown sugar. I used to love it in my oatmeal, but switched to syrup as I thought I’d get cavities.
Hmmm I always use brown sugar too. Never thought about syrup. Have you ever tried honey?
I do use honey occasionally though I don’t like too much of it as I find it sweet. I use the regular Log Cabin syrup as it has the least sugar … I used to use sugar-free but they say the artificial sweeteners are bad, so I went back to regular syrup again. I’ll have to try brown sugar again – I used that for years and years.
This is something I learned as a kid. It is handy to know when you want to make something and discovered you don’t have the brown sugar you need. Thanks for sharing.
You’re welcome!
I have never even thought of making my own brown sugar! Sounds really easy too!
OMG it is so easy! I think it is so much fun transforming it from white sugar to brown sugar. I love how soft it is too!
I saw your post also on confectioners’ sugar. I think these are things that cooks in previous generations passed down to each other and somewhere along the way it got lost. Probably for “convenience?”
Oh definitely! In todays world we all want convenience and it is so quick and easy to make these items with no preservatives or chemicals added!
Interesting, I never thought about making my own brown sugar. I might want to experiment with granulated splenda instead of refined sugar.
Great idea!!!!! It should work the same way as long as the Splenda doesn’t dissolve. Let me know if it worked will you?
I’m thinking the granulated splenda for baking would work ok. This would be a great way of reducing sugar content. My uncle and some of his friends make molasses every year after the sorghum harvest.
Oh how cool is that! Talk about healthy!
Its better than store bought any day.
I can’t bring up your site?????
