Ultimate M&M Cookie Recipe with Chocolate Chips

Discover the ultimate M&M cookie recipe with chocolate chips added for a delicious cookie treat. Perfect for cookie and chocolate lovers alike!

Place oven safe parchment paper on two cookie sheets, set aside.

In a small bowl with a fork whisk the eggs and vanilla extract, set aside.

In a medium bowl whisk together the flour, salt and baking soda, set aside.

With a mixer cream the butter, light brown sugar and white sugar.

It will look like this when done.

Add the eggs and vanilla a little at a time while mixing.

Add the flour, salt and baking soda a little at a time until gone.

Mix, scraping the bottom and sides of the bowl, until all of the flour is mixed in.

Remove the bowl from the mixer and add the M&M’s and chocolate chips.

Fold in the M&M’s and chocolate chips, by hand, until all the chocolate pieces are evenly distributed.

Using a spoon (I used an ice cream scoop and my cookies were almost 5” big) place the cookie dough on the prepared pans keeping them apart by 2” or more depending on the size of your cookies.

The cookie dough can be rolled with your hands after you scoop them out. The nice thing about the cookie scoop is that the cookies will be all the same size. Bake in a preheated 350º oven for 8-10 minutes or until they get golden brown on the edges. Keep checking them if they don’t look done because they can turn light golden brown fast.

Remove the cookies from the oven and immediately add more M&M’s by carefully pressing a few on top of each cookie. Place the cookies on a sheet of foil, a cooling rack or whatever you like. I always use foil and they always turn out great that way.

Let them cool while you find a good book, get the hot chocolate ready and dig in! Once completely cool place them in an airtight container on the counter.

    • I left the ice cream soften just a little. Then I add a large scoop to center of one cookie and smashed it just barely to reaching sides with another cookie. I used a knife to go around edges of any cookies oozing ice cream. Place them on a cookie sheet and place in freezer for at least 1 hour. I made 6 sandwiches with a dozen cookies. I used a batter that spreads and add 1 tablespoon cornstarch to help the cookies not get crispy but y stay soft. Easier to bite into when they are frozen. Also got descent size sandwich cookies, let them spread out to about 5 inches round. Here’s one of my recipes with pictures- https://cookplatefork.com/2023/03/27/oatmeal-almond-butter-cookie-ice-cream-sandwiches

      • Thank you for the link, that is so simple yet delicious I’m sure! I never heard of adding cornstarch, that is so clever. Can you tell a difference in taste at all?

    • I have this cookbook The Ultimate Cookie Handbook by Tessa Arias at Handle the Heat / In the book Chapter 3. Cookie Customization she writes under If You Want Softer Cookies …
      Add Cornstarch
1-2 teaspoons and she says even a tablespoon if you’re feeling bold.

She says Cookies with cornstarch are ultrasoft and slightly gooey and paler in color. As a thickening agent, it can also aid in lift and hight.

She also says brown sugar works the same. The ratio is 1/2 cup to 1/2 cup or 3/4 cup bs to 1/4 cup sugar. Softer chewier and cookies stay softer for longer.

And to answer your question, No, there is no cornstarch flavor.

It’s the same when you add vinegar to meat bones to make broth – vinegar draws flavor and nutrients from bones. After broth is cooked there is no vinegar flavor.

I do believe though cornstarch has a neutral flavor (very little to no flavor at all). It’s not like baking powder. You know if you put a pinch to much you can taste the powder. But not with cornstarch. Just be careful not to use a lot as it is a thickening agent.

  1. My neighbour gave me a recipe very similar to this years ago, Diane. I haven’t made them in years. I used to make them for my kids and they loved that there were M&Ms in them.

    • I have tried so many M&M recipes Carla. I changed up the nestle toll house cookie recipe which I love but it wasn’t quite “it”. Maybe if I had put the chocolate chips and M&M’s in it. Anyhow, I am really happy with this recipe. My cousin brought me cookies for Christmas and she used this recipe. Sounds like it may be time for you to make them again. Lol

    • Keep in mine that normally you put 2 cups of chocolate chips into chocolate chip cookies. This recipe is 1 cup each of chocolate chips and M&M’s. I may or may not have added more than a cup of M&M’s though. The two compliment each other so well it’s like a whole new cookie. I made these for the picnic we are having to celebrate my youngest grandchild’s 2nd birthday. My gosh Linda, I am having so much food! Now I pray the weather is perfect so we don’t have to be crammed in our small house with everyone. 🤞🏻

    • This was the first time I added them both and I could kick myself for not doing it sooner. But wait, as if that wasn’t sweet enough, Randy, one of my followers said he adds ice cream between two cookies and makes an ice cream sandwich out of them!!!! Now you know I will have to try that. Lol

      • Oh that sounds wonderful – yes, make another post with Randy’s suggestion! Years ago in downtown Toronto we had the Eatons and Simpsons Department Stores and there was an underground walkway – like a tunnel, which went under the main drag that had lots of traffic, streetcars and buses. Shoppers used the Eaton’s Tunnel all the time, especially in crummy weather or to avoid having to cross in traffic. So, in this little tunnel was a vendor and they made hot waffle ice cream sandwiches. They were so good and you really had to have a bunch of napkins as the waffles were piping hot with a big slice of vanilla ice cream in between. My mom used to make them with the small waffles you bought (store brand) when they had the very small bricks of ice cream. I just Googled to see if the ice cream sandwiches were still served in the Tunnel, but no, as Eaton’s closed but the make them now at the annual Canadian National Exhibition (it’s every August, like a huge State Fair). I’ll send you a video in a separate comment – you can see how good they look. Now I want one. 🙂

      • When I Googled “does Eaton’s still have hot waffle sandwiches in the tunnel, the answer was Eaton’s closed in 1999. And then I saw the story about the ice cream waffles at the Exhibition. The Exhibition is only there the last two weeks of August, like a State Fair, so I wonder if they have that two-week gig and no work the rest of the year – sounds good to me!

      • Yes, a very nice work schedule. She looked like she was having fun making those treats. She probably does it in her sleep after making so many!

      • Yes – I’ll bet you will try it. I like the big knife they used to cut the ice cream! Do they even sell bricks of ice cream anymore – small or large? I’ve not had ice cream or frozen yogurt since my mom passed away. You used to be able to buy pre-sliced ice cream somewhere – maybe Baskin Robbins?

      • Gee I don’t know if they still sell it. I know our local Ice cream parlor sells the cups with a spoon but I believe you have to buy a case of them.

  2. A book, hot chocolate, and your delicious M&M cookies – what a wonderful combination. I wish I was your neighbour, then I would come visit you right now! Btw, beautiful photo with the steaming hot chocolate 💕.
