Uranus – Route 66 In Missouri

Colorful sign for Uranus Fudge Factory and Sideshow Museum, featuring a UFO and a dinosaur, with advertisements for homemade ice cream and a sign for US Route 66.

We discovered the quirky charm of Uranus in Missouri. We explored unique displays, fun activities and a nostalgic vibe. Check out our pictures and see what we saw.

On our trip out west, we saw multiple billboard signs for Uranus. Our curiosity got the better of us and I had to stop and see what it was all about. It turned out to be a stupid kind of fun and we were happy we stopped there.

A large rocket-shaped attraction named 'ASTRO-LINER' displayed on a trailer in a parking lot, featuring checkered patterns and a red tip.

You couldn’t miss this out by the road in their parking lot.

A decorative display featuring a large elephant statue on top of a colorful structure, with musicians playing instruments in sombreros in the background.

There were multiple buildings to look at and some to check out inside.

A close-up of the 'Uranus City Jail' sign on a red brick building, with palm leaves in the foreground.

It was like visiting an old small western town.

A vintage police car with a red light on top parked in front of a wooden building featuring a bright green 'TATTOOS' sign.

They don’t make cars like this anymore!

A colorful vintage double-decker bus parked outside with a decorative entrance gate and a windmill in the background, featuring a family interacting nearby.

So many fun things to look at outside.

A colorful dinosaur statue standing on two pillars with a spiky star sculpture above it, alongside an old red fire truck parked on a roadside.

I don’t know how they came up with their unique displays!

A humorous alien statue dressed in a green feather boa and hat, holding a sign that says 'Thanks for visiting Uranus!' against a brick wall.

Now for the inside displays.

Vintage gas pump displaying '50 cents per gallon' in a colorful setting with signage in the background.

We could only wish gas was 50 cents per gallon!

A humorous sign reading 'MISSING: A Pair of Balls' related to Putt Pirates Mini Golf in Uranus, Missouri, featuring images of blue golf balls and a golf club.

What a sense of humor.

A wooden door with a painted alien illustration and signs that read 'Pet the Alien!' and 'Stay Back!!! Danger'.

When you stuck your hand in the opening it blew a puff of air.

A wall display featuring various 'Wanted' and 'Reward' posters with cut-out holes for faces, set against a rustic brick background.

For this picture display, you walked behind the wall and put your face in the holes of WANTED or REWARD so you could have your picture taken.

A vintage-style wooden wall displaying a long rifle and various metal shackles or restraints, surrounded by graffiti and signatures from visitors.

That is a lot of shackles.

Display case featuring a baby rattlesnake and eggs nestled in straw.

Not real but from a distance it looked real.

A wooden box labeled 'CAUTION BABY RATTLERS' with colorful handwriting and a warning to 'STAY BACK!'

I saved my favorite two pictures for last.

Colorful baby toys scattered on a dirty surface, including a giraffe rattle, a frog toy, and other play items.

When we looked inside the box we found these baby rattlers.

There was a large gift shop, chocolate candy and ice cream too.

More pictures in a week!

  1. I have passed by that place a number of times. You pretty much confirmed my suspicions- a lot of hokey fun and a few double entendres on some of the signs. All in all, no harm done, though.

  2. The “stupid kind of fun” is the best kind of fun. Love that you took this detour during your trip. It really looks like landing on another planet, Diane. And I bet there were many cheeky jokes made about the word Uranus too. These moments make roadtrips and long drives so memorable!

    • The Arch and Uranus was fantastic. I haven’t told anyone but this trip was to celebrate our 35th anniversary early. It isn’t until November but due to medical issues with a family member we went early. If we didn’t go when we did we wouldn’t have been able to go. Besides that I wanted to see the dessert flowers, wait until I post those pictures! Our trip to Hawaii for our 30th anniversary was cancelled because that was when covid hit. We are hoping to take more trips.

  3. What a hoot! When you go there, expect some fun–I’d love to do just that. But I’d beware of the rattlers! I think those “shackles” are actually horse bits for bridles. I’m not an expert on either subject though.

  4. It looks like a very punny place to visit. I have never heard of this place but it is a stop I would have made too. The “baby rattlers” cracked me up too. When we traveled Route 66 many years ago, we stopped at a place for me, the kid, that was similarly made like a old western town. Wouldn’t it be funny if this was the same place but modernized a lot more? That place was a bit wacky as well and they had a stuffed bucking bronco you could sit on after you put on chaps and a hat and got your picture taken. They had a chicken that played the xylophone – it walked back and forth on the top of a huge xylophone and made music and had a mock graveyard with tombstones with funny sayings on them.

      • Really – interesting. Well, this place I went to might have turned into your venue as it was right along Route 66 … a big tourist attraction, especially the talented chicken. 🙂

      • I think that was the fun part of seeing the old Rt 66, I assume everything was like it was when it was the main route. There are a lot of abandoned buildings, too, but the ones that are there seemed in good shape.

      • That’s incredible when you think of it, all of them still standing. I remember stopping at a lot of small gas stations along the way. Like you’d see in old movies or TV shows with the Coke machine, the old Coke bottles or Orange Crush bottles, always on the outside of where you paid. I don’t think they had convenience stores attached in those days.

  5. looks like a really fun stop – and also an experience, especially with the display that has the face in the holes of WANTED or REWARD- how cool

  6. Uranus must have the most fun and colourful road signs ever! What a quirky town! I really enjoyed the photos – there is so much detail to look at that I had to go through your post twice to make sure I didn’t miss anything😁.

  7. Oh wow Dianne that place looks really cool. It’s exactly the type of place that Clint and I would stop at and spend a few hours. I love the baby rattlers lol
