Amish Friendship Cinnamon Sourdough Bread

After ten days of making the sourdough starter, (click here) it was time to make the bread. Two loaves of a delicious Amish sourdough cinnamon bread! The cinnamon on top was crunchy and the bread (more like dessert) was moist and delicious!

Preheat oven to 325º. Grease two large bread pans.

In a small bowl combine 1/2 cup sugar with 1-1/2 tsp cinnamon.

Dust the bottom and sides of the pans with a little of the cinnamon sugar, set the rest aside.

In a large bowl add one cup of the starter.

Add all the rest of the ingredients (except for the topping) and using a wooden spoon, stir until smooth with no lumps. You can’t use your mixer as the beaters are metal.

Pour the batter evenly into the two bread pans.

Sprinkle the remaining sugar & cinnamon evenly over the tops. Bake for one hour or until a toothpick comes out clean from the center.

    • OMG Dorothy, that is the best cinnamon bread I have ever tasted! I gave my daughter a loaf and she couldn’t stop texting me how good it was. Lol Thank you 🥰

  1. This looks delicious, Diane. I can feel, smell and taste the moistness of the bread and the warm greasy melted butter! 😋

    • It is the best cinnamon bread I have ever had. I was so happy it turned out with the 10 day process and I can’t wait to try something else with the sourdough starter. Thank you Ab!

  2. I make bread often, but I never thought about dusting the pan with a little razzle dazzle! That’s a great idea! I would be worrying about my bread getting stuck in the pan. You don’t have an issues?

  3. Diane, I can smell that cinnamon-y smell from here and I’ll bet it was wonderful. You will try it again I’m sure with another starter kit?

    • Haha You know me well and the house smelled amazing. I have 3 starters going right now which I could make 9 loaves of bread with. My starter turned out and the bread was out of this world! My daughter texted me and I was cracking up, I gave her a loaf. She was saying things like she was going into a happy diabetic coma. I had cinnamon sugar on top and the crazy lady went and put icing on top! Now to figure out the regular sour dough bread for Terry. There is no starter kit. To create the starter you use sugar, flour and milk.

      • Okay, I thought it was a starter kit of some type. I remember a fellow blogger, not with a cooking blog, got a sourdough starter kit from her son, so I assumed it was like this. It sounds like it is delicious … icing too? She has a bigtime sweet tooth!

      • How long do you keep doing this Diane? Does it eventually “expire” and not be usable, for lack of a better description?

      • As long as you keep feeding it flour, sugar and a liquid it goes forever. One of my followers said hers was 20 years old. You can make so much more with the starter than just bread like cinnamon rolls, pretzels etc. I made sourdough bread and I think it turned out great. When I find time to make a post I will ask and see what the people that are bread bakers think of how the sourdough bread looks to them.

      • Last time I did this I was in my twenties. I got tired of it and I used so many ingredients feeding it I threw it out. So far I have made regular and cinnamon sour dough bread. Not sure what I will make next.

      • I do think you should do a follow-up with the sour dough bread … cinnamon sour dough bread sounds different. I just bought one of those Rustik sourdough breads for a treat. I don’t get it too much as it is 300 sodium mg for one piece – granted the pieces are like two pieces of regular bread.

      • You’re welcome Diane! (I know you have confidence in me as well, that maybe one day I will broaden my horizons beyond the crock pot, but I thank you for recommending it to me to begin with!)

      • I do and I am glad you suggested it to me Diane!
(Hope you were okay from all these storms tonight. I was a Nervous Nellie with several sites up and monitoring them – that rain and wind!)

      • We had high wind and rain for about 10 minutes and it was done. Power went out for 15 seconds then came right back on. I hope you didn’t get much!

      • Your power went out just enough to trigger the digital clocks probably. I’m glad you had no damage. I hope everything is fine outside here as well as we had intense rain and high winds for about 45 minutes … they predicted it to start at 8:15 and just like that … 8:15 it began. There was a confirmed tornado in Fraser, 30 miles away from me, at 1:00 p.m. and two other touchdown events, but they have not confirmed if it was a tornado or not. I’m glad it’s over as I worried about it all day long, yesterday too.

      • This is true – but would you sustain hail damage to the metal roof if the hail was of a certain size Diane? We had hail damage many years ago on the siding. I was still young, so I don’t even remember what it looked like or how severe it was, but it was after a severe storm. We had another bad storm tonight – the winds were not as high as Wednesday night, but maybe 40-45 mph and some hail (they said), but the torrential rain was something else. It was not severe “go-to-your-basement” but it poured like that for about 45 minutes. I worry as we have lots of old trees and we had rain several times today, plus the storm last night. We have another storm tomorrow night into early Saturday.

      • The company doesn’t give a warranty for acts of God, that would be the insurance company. Did I tell you that I gave a Google review of the roofing company? I don’t know if this is why but I gave them high ratings and great comment, we received a thank you note for hiring them with a $50 gift card to Texas Roadhouse. It was so nice to hire a good company!

      • That was nice of them to do that. Yes, it is good to hire a good company. Did you change your insurance to reflect the new roof? I know the siding was not covered under my parents’ homeowners insurance (Allstate) for the hail damage. We had the storm last night and maybe another one early tomorrow morning – I am dreading what happens to break this heat wave – ugh. A few more gray hairs for me worrying about it.

      • I did call but I have to do a bunch of things first and they said it would only be a few dollars. She was discouraging me and said it can only go on the next premium due.

      • I must have written it but it didn’t show up with an arrow that I replied – grrr WP. If it isn’t Comcast, it is WP. You know I turn off the VPN when I’m WP or else I can’t “like”. Now my radio station says I’m from the EU so I can’t access it online and cannot get into a financial site as it says my logon credentials aren’t valid. I did read or hear on the news that this huge data breach that was revealed last week has compromised passwords and that the hacked accounts locked access … this has happened to me. So, I may just return to quill pen and ink and parchment paper for my correspondence and blog posts. 🙂
