Fork Tender Swiss Steak

Who doesn’t love a meal where the meat is so tender that you don’t even need a knife to cut it? The flavor of this meat is spot on and makes plenty for a family. I serve mine with mashed potatoes and a vegetable.

Combine the flour, salt and pepper.

Cut the round steak into serving size pieces.

Dredge the meat in the flour mixture.

In a large skillet, heat the oil over medium heat. When hot add the steak and cook on both sides until brown.

Spray a 4-quart baking dish, that has a lid, with cooking oil.

Place the meat flat (try not to overlap) in the prepared baking dish. Top with diced vegetables then pour the broth mixed with garlic and steak sauce over the top. My husband doesn’t like mushrooms so I left them out.

Bake covered in a preheated 350-degree oven for 1-1/2 hours or until tender.

Then serve.

Thank you Derrick!
Nice post 🌅🌅
Thank you!
This looks so tasty and easy to prepare. 🙂
Thank you Paul!
This would definitely please the meat eaters!
We had this a lot growing up. Back then this was a cheap cut of meat. We didn’t have much money so it was fun saying we had steak for dinner. Lol
That looks delicious. Steak is my comfort meat and that would indeed taste delicious with mashed potatoes. 😋
I usually make gravy too but this time I didn’t. I love having mashed potatoes and meat in one bite, so good. Thank you Ab! Off to cook beef heart now, my grandson came over and he loves it. Nobody else will eat it with me but him. Lol
I’d love to try a beef heart one day!
We devoured almost all of it. I hope you can try it someday too.
I think I might make that tonight! Comfort food my style!
Oh yes, definitely comfort food. We had Swiss steak a lot growing up.
I have never made this but it was a staple in our house growing up. My Mom made it quite a lot but I don’t have her recipe.
That’s funny, it was a staple in my house too. I think it was considered a cheap cut of meat back then.
Good comfort food for these cold days.
I agree Linda!
I can taste this just from the pictures… the carrots will be tender, too, almost a little sweet, and the melt will literally melt in your mouth. Over pasta or rice, this is the perfect hearty winter meal. Thank you for sharing the recipe!!!!!
Yes, all the veggies were tender. I need you to write my explanation of my food, you made it sound amazing! Thank you🥰
Looks great and I would expect that the taste is as good as the sight!
Thank you Barry! This is one of my favorite dishes as it is easy, makes the house smell amazing and is so delicious.
What a delightful comfort food! Perfect for these cold winter days.
Thank you Sheryl 🥰
This looks tasty and will warm you up on a cold Winter’s day.
You would love the aroma while they cook Linda.
I am sure I would Diane. My mom used to make stew a lot in the Winter – this reminded me of her beef stew.
Oh sweetness! This looks delicious indeed. Even the preparation itself is straightforward and alluring. I’ll try this at home. 😊
Thank you Lamittan, I hope you love it as much as we do.
Looks amazing. I make something similar but I use green pepper strips, sliced mushrooms, and sliced onions. Instead of beef broth, I use a cup of ketchup mixed with a cup of water. I will definitely have to try this version!
That sounds delicious Susanne! My husband and I love just about anything but I don’t like green peppers and he doesn’t like mushrooms. Lol So I leave both of them out when cooking. When we go out to eat we both love to order food with them in it. Thank you for your comment. 🥰
Your post made the food come alive for me. ❤️
Thank you for your kind words Kim!
Hmm, this is my kind of meal – to eat with only one hand 😉. That looks delicious Diane, I love that everything goes into one bowl.
This is a definite favorite of ours. So much flavor, easy, tender and delicious. Thank you Corna!
Thank you for reposting!
Thank you for sharing my recipe!
