Seventh Kitchen Remodel Update

What a productive week this has been now that the replacement cabinets are all here! All of the gray cabinets are the same color but the shadows make them look a different color of gray, especially the little panty by the door. I left the lights off so you could see the hand blown glass design. With the lights on my iPad only showed them white.

The cabinet black hardware was all installed so now I am putting shelf liners in, washing everything and starting to fill the cabinets with my kitchen dishes, pots etc.

My island countertop was installed on Tuesday. I had them extend the end of the counter so I can put a stool there for food prep or to eat. I didn’t have enough room to put multiple stools along the long side, a disadvantage to a smaller kitchen, but this works just fine for the two of us.

My lights above the island were installed as well as the two large pantry’s and one smaller pantry.

There is still more work to do so I will probably have more updates before I post the before pictures.

  1. it’s coming together so nicely, and glad you can put some things away, and be productive in getting it back into you, I love the island extension and was thinking just the same thing, otherwise no where to put your legs when prepping

    • Thank you so much Beth. I made my first big meal and it was better than I expected cooking in my new kitchen. There is so much room to move around and so much counter space too. Using the gas range is very different, I love it!

      • It sure does Beth. We remodeled the dining room last year and it’s larger than the kitchen. I was only going to remodel the kitchen this year then I ended up replacing all the doors, extended the flooring throughout all the rooms except the bedrooms (luckily they still had the same kind and color) and I am changing the molding from brown to white, huge difference. Now I want this flooring in the bedrooms but I’m broke! 🤣

  2. Diane, this kitchen looks absolutely beautiful. I especially love the glass pendants. You also have plenty of storage! Enjoy your new kitchen!

  3. Congratulations on the countertop, really good taste. The kitchen is very inviting. The problem with a newly renovated kitchen is, somethings we don’t want to spoil it.

    • Not me, now that I’m able we are using the heck out of it. My problem is I am lining all the shelves so most everything has been and still is boxed up. Finding what I need to cook with is a challenge. Lol Thank you Alessandra!

    • Awe don’t be! I have lived with a 70’s kitchen since early 1990’s. I saved for three years so I could pay cash and designed it for over a year. I am 65 and it took me that long to get this kitchen. I have had medical issues making it impossible to go on vacation for now so this was a few years vacation until we can go again.

    • Thank you! As soon as I saw them I knew they were it. I showed them to my husband and said he loved them too. We had to put them high enough so he didn’t hit his head on them and break them. 🤣

  4. Very beautiful Diane! I love the color – very soothing. That’s a good idea extending the top like that … tuck the bench underneath when done with it and you don’t have to stand for hours doing food prep – smart thinking!

    • I finally had an anxiety fit which I have never done before in my life. I had to do a major reorganization of construction materials inside the house or I was going to go crazy. Now that the contractor started another already scheduled job (due to our 5 week delay waiting for replacement cabinets), he is not here as much. There is still a lot to do but he comes after work from about 5:30 – 8:00 a day or two a week. Last week we lucked out and he came on Saturday as the other people weren’t going to be home. I can’t wait to get the backsplash on, heck I can’t wait to be done! I’m afraid it’s going to be quite a while before it’s all completed but it surprises me how one man can do so much and so well! I ran out of my 6 rolls of shelf liners so 6 more rolls should be here Saturday.

    • Thank you Patty, I have a dimmer switch on the three lights over the island and I have them on and all the way dimmed all night long until I go to bed. I can’t wait until the backsplash gets installed, that will make it look even more different.

  5. It looks so good, Diane! And great idea to extend the countertop for seating and dining space. You just must be so thrilled it’s all coming together.

    • Thank you Ab. I finally had some anxiety about the clutter and mazes in the house about 5 days ago. It’s funny because the kitchen is perfectly clear but it’s all the other rooms that were getting to me. So yesterday I emptied everything out of the dining room that didn’t belong, it’s back to normal. I put all the rest of the molding (there’s a lot) in the living room and hid the paint cans and mud container in the landing to the basement and closed the door. I started filling the cabinets but ran out of shelf liner. I ordered more and it should be here by Saturday so now I get a break! Maybe I can get caught up with the 103 comments I need to reply to on WP. I can’t wait to start cooking new recipes again.

      • WP comments can wait. Decluttering the home is both fun and very therapeutic. I can see why it calms you but also gives you anxiety when it’s there! Can’t wait for your next update.

  6. YAY! I finally made it the post of all the post that I was waiting for… The kitchen reveal!! I love it! Very neat, fresh and clean! I beat cooking and baking is even better now!

    • Haha not the final reveal yet! Still need backsplash, fancy molding, ceiling work and painting but it’s getting close. You will know the final reveal when I post the before and after. Nobody has seen the before yet. But thank you for your fun comment!

    • Thank you Corna! I turn them down with the dimmer switch every night just so I can enjoy them. I had the contractor install under cabinet lights and was going to dim them at night but the lights won out! Lol

    • Thank you Carla! The lights are my favorite thing in the kitchen. I have them dimmed low every night once it gets dark. They don’t get shut off until I go to bed.
