Third New Kitchen Remodel Update

Our contractor completed the kitchen floor installation and installed the base cabinets!

The countertop company used the laser and made the templates this week. I asked if they can install the granite on the island next month since we have to wait for the replacement cabinets and they agreed.

Do you see that nice shiny gas range along the back wall? That is my favorite part of the kitchen. My contractor was nice enough to connect it for us so we could at least cook! Now you know how I could make a pie. He even put a piece of plywood on the top of the cabinets so we had a place to put things when we are cooking, this man is so thoughtful!

That’s where we are at this week. My house is still a maze walking around all of the uninstalled boxed cabinets, molding and trying to keep up with the dust. The counter install date is confirmed for June 27th, six more days. The contractor will put the plumbing and faucet in on the 29th.

Stay tuned for the Forth New Kitchen Remodel Update next week.

  1. I’m so excited about your new kitchen … it almost feels like it’s my own kitchen! And who said you can’t cook in a half-remodeled kitchen. I bet you can’t wait for the end result … well, I can’t!

    • Thank you for telling me that, I know my followers want recipes posted and I wasn’t sure how the kitchen update would do. Since cooking is so difficult right now I am glad you are enjoying the progress.

  2. We bought our last house at a time when houses were flying off the market the same day they went up for sale. We didn’t get one with a gas range, but we made sure it had gas installed so we could change in the future. I’m sure you will enjoy your new gas range, Diane.

    • Linda, I seriously can’t believe the difference! I made a strawberry rhubarb pie for my granddaughter yesterday and it browned evenly and cooked beautifully. Once I have fun with the regular oven I will try the convection oven in it too. I didn’t like the convection oven in one of my electric ovens so it should be interesting. You were so smart to leave the option open for gas!

    • This next week should have some good progress to make our lives easier. We are putting in all new molding and I bought 7 solid wood doors. He had to paint all of it and started installing the doors today. So exciting!

  3. It is looking awesome, Diane. I can only imagine what it’ll look like with the granite and the upper cupboards. You must be so excited. How nice that you can cook now too. What a thoughtful contractor!

    • Thank you this picture is nothing, there is so much more to do. I was thinking of you today when my granddaughter and I dug into my annual strawberry rhubarb pie. I sent her home with some to share with her brother too so I don’t eat it all! Lol

      • My 95 year old MIL told me it was the best rhubarb pie she has ever had. My grandkids have always eaten all of it in the previous years but I made sure she got one piece at least. I love that woman! Lol

  4. It is so bright and airy in your kitchen Diane and the size is as big as my living room and kitchen combined. I see the piece of plywood – how thoughtful. I like that you have multiple plugs, something this kitchen, (as well as the rest of the house), is sorely lacking). Now we will all wait for the next installment and we now know how you made your cherry pie!

    • Thank you Linda! My granddaughters favorite pie is my rhubarb strawberry pie so I made one yesterday too. I am already loving this oven. I sent her a picture of the pie and I said “Do you want to come over?” Call it blackmail but it worked because she said “Heck Yes!” We had an afternoon pie snack, ate supper and I sent her home with more pie for her and my grandson. Their mom hates rhubarb and I can’t believe how much the kids love this pie.

      • Strawberry rhubarb pie with both fruits already in season and homemade pie – I don’t blame the grandkids for liking it! My mom liked it as well and she would make strawberry rhubarb pie, but more often, when it was just the two of us, she would stew up a big pot of strawberry rhubarb and we’d have it on buttered toast or on ice cream or frozen yogurt – yum!

    • It sure is, I have saved for 3 years and I was designing it for over a year. I watched all kinds of kitchen remodeling and cooking shows. Every time I saw something I liked I wrote it down.

  5. Already looks lovely! Moving right along. Of course, that is easy for me to say from where I sit.
