Happy Mother’s Day – 2024

This is not a picture of my kitchen and do you know why? Because there will not be any cooking in my kitchen today, in fact, there won’t be any cooking in my kitchen until approximately July!

Am I sick, staying in the hospital you ask? Luckily that is a definite no.

Am I going on a long vacation? I wish, but again no.

Then why would I not be cooking in my kitchen? Because I will be cooking in my dining room instead and my husband will be cooking outside on the grill.

Why you ask? Because yesterday was the first day that work began to get my new dream kitchen, can you believe it!!! My old kitchen will be completely gutted with a new floor, all new appliances, lighting, custom cabinets and quartz countertops. This house was built in the 70’s and nothing has been changed in my kitchen, until now!

I will be transforming our dining room with the microwave, air fryer, slow cooker and induction burners for cooking. We won’t have water in the kitchen either so we will be using plastic throw away plates and silverware.

Will it be difficult to have a cooking blog with no kitchen? Absolutely, but it will be worth it in the end. I will try to continue to keep my normal posting schedule, however, if I do miss one here and there please try and understand and don’t disappear on me.

I will be posting pictures when the kitchen is completely finished. I would do it sooner but I am keeping it a surprise from my family too. I can’t wait to see their faces when it is completed.

HAPPY MOTHER’S DAY!

  1. We had new kitchen a few years ago, turned the house upside down for a bit, but the end result was well worth it. You’ll have your dream kitchen in no time. Take care, and happy mother’s day!

  2. Diane! This is so exciting! I can’t wait to see your new kitchen. How about some before and after pictures? I do wish you would get a microwave with a convection oven in it – like our travel trailer has. This is simply selfish of me because I would love to get convection oven recipes from you. In any case, you don’t have to worry about me disappearing! I love your blog! P.S. I do use the microwave, air fryer and slow cooker quite often, so I am glad you have those! 🙂 Happy Mother’s Day!

    • Thank you Betty! I will definitely post pictures but probably when it’s done because I won’t tell my family how I designed it. From 2 rooms to open floor, all new flooring, custom cabinets, granite counter tops and more. The cabinets were the original from the 70’s when the house was built. Tomorrow he tears out drywall and soffits so that should be pretty messy too. The new counters are scheduled to go in on June 27th so the contractor has a lot to do by then!

      • Diane, this kitchen sounds WONDERFUL! I can’t wait to see it. I wonder what you will cook in it for the first meal.

      • I can’t wait to cook on gas, I have never had a gas range. Also, the oven has a convection oven in it! It said it converts everything automatically so I will have a good learning experience with it.

  3. Happy Mothers Day, Diane! What an exciting adventure to be starting. Your new kitchen sounds amazing and I can’t wait to see your photos.

And I love the adventure you will be undertaking in the next few weeks with your temporary kitchen. That in itself is blog worthy!

  4. Happy Mother’s Day. Congratulations on the soon to be new kitchen. I’ve loved using my rice cooker / steamer to cook all kinds of things..that and my toaster oven.

You might look into disposable plates etc that are made to be composted, are biodegradable.

  5. That’s awesome! I am so excited for you, there is nothing like getting your kitchen completely done over. My husband did ours a couple of years ago and I love it. It will certainly be worth the wait. Happy Mother’s Day, Diane.!

  6. Happy Mother’s Day, Diane. Camping out in your own house will be worth the trouble. At least you do have running water on the premises. Looking forward to seeing the finished product on what is clearly a major project! 😀

    • Thank you Linda! We are still without a floor covering in the kitchen, living room and hall. We tore out the carpet and we are replacing it with waterproof LVP. Walking on plywood in our flip flops! 🤣

  7. You certainly deserve it – the Queen of Recipes deserves a state-of-the-art and gorgeous kitchen! I love the graphics and story to keep us guessing. 🙂

  8. I hope you had a very Happy Mother’s Day, Diane, and congratulations on your soon-to-be-completed “Dream Kitchen”!!! That sounds exciting!!

    • So far so good. Cabinets come June 3rd and just picked out the counter top. Thought I wanted quartz but when I saw the granite I fell in love, granite it is!

  9. That’s great news Diane! I’m sure the cooking in the dining room will be worth it in the end when your dream kitchen is finished! I can’t wait to see what it looks like when you guys are done …

    • I will definitely be posting pictures. It’s getting real now. I have been designing this kitchen for a year. I would see something on tv and change my mind multiple times until I had it just right.
