Powdered Buttermilk

On a trip to an Amish bulk food store I found this Powered Buttermilk. For all you bakers out there, how many times do you want to bake something that calls for buttermilk and you don’t have any? Yes you can use the same method I have always used by adding vinegar to milk but from now on I will be using Powdered Buttermilk. If you can’t find this product they do sell it on Amazon.

I use powdered buttermilk all the time. I just buy it at the grocery store. Since i cannot stand regular buttermilk, it lasts much longer this way, and I have it when I need it.
Well who knew they sold it at the stores? Oh wait maybe that’s because my husband does all the grocery shopping! 🤣🤣😂 Oh well it’s a good excuse to drive to Amish Country right? Lol
That’s what happens when you let the men do the shopping. 🙂 But I’m with you. If I lived closer to Amish country, I would do that do. 🙂
Thanks, Diane, that’s good to know, especially since it will no doubt keep longer than liquid milk or buttermilk. (And not take up room in the fridge.)
You’re welcome and that’s is exactly why I love it.
Great idea.
I couldn’t believe my eyes when I saw this the first time. It lasts a long time and is so easy to make. Thank you Georgetta. 💕
I checked out Amazon as you suggested. I have a couple recipes that use buttermilk, but I didn’t want to purchase it because know one will dink the milk. Thanks for the suggestion.
That’s why I love what I bought from Amish Country, it is a smaller container. However, I find I make more recipes calling for buttermilk because now I always have this on hand.
I always have this in the pantry, it’s so handy for those recipes Diane!
I only discovered it in the past year. I love it!
Thank you for reblogging this! ❤️
Oh, that’s handy. Didn’t know you could get powdered butter milk. Idea for if you want to make a soda bread quickly.
I like to make it on St Patricks Day which is also my granddaughter’s birthday!
I marinate my turkey in buttermilk. This will come in handy.
Everything I have used it for has tasted great. I love that you can make a little or a lot and it doesn’t expire in a week.
I always look forward to your visits to the Amish stores because they seem to have really good and pragmatic materials and ingredients.
I haven’t cooked with buttermilk before, although I do keep saying I want to make buttermilk-coated fried chicken one day. I would imagine that the powdered version works just fine? Will have to give it a try!
Have you ever marinated chicken in buttermilk? It tenderizes it without making it tough. I’m sure it will work with fried chicken too.
I’ve only ever seen recipes with fried chicken coated/marinated in buttermilk. They always look so tasty!
Buttermilk makes the best bread. Also, for an upset stomach, if you can choke down a tablespoon of buttermilk, you will be fine quickly.
I used to love it as a kid. I can still drink it, just not a lot of it.
I use powdered butter milk for all my baking recipes that call for butter milk or sour milk.
I just discovered it this year, so happy!
Hmm – didn’t know there was something like this. My father drank buttermilk for his ulcer and I know my mom used it for her baking sometimes.
I was thrilled when I found it at the Amish bulk food store Linda. I had never heard of it. It is so much better than buying buttermilk every time I need some. I can’t tell you how many times I had to throw away the portion I didn’t use. Like your dad, I drank it too but as a kid. Now it’s ok but I’d rather not drink it.
I think my father drank it before the ulcer as I remember it being around when I was a kid. You make the greatest finds when you go there.
