Homemade Strawberry Pop Tart

I love Pop Tarts so I thought I would make my own. This was so simple to make because I used store bought pie crust, strawberry jam, baked it in the oven and frosted it with my homemade frosting.

Butter a large baking sheet.

Place one of the pie dough circles onto the pan.

Spread a thin layer of the strawberry jam onto

the pie dough, keeping it about 1” from the edge.

Using your finger or a pastry brush

wet the edge of the dough with water.

Place the second pie dough circle on top. Using a fork press

down all around the edge sealing the dough together. Using

the fork, poke holes into the top layer of the pie dough.

Bake in a preheated 350º oven for about 20 minutes

or until the edges turn a light brown. Let

it cool competely on the pan.

Frost or serve it unfrosted.

(I will put my frosting recipe on the recipe card.)

Let the frosting set then slice and serve.

Ingredients

Pop Tart Ingredients:

  • 2-3 Tbsp. butter, softened
  • 1 box of two refrigerated pie crusts dough
  • Strawberry Jam (or your favorite kind)

Frosting Ingredients:

  • 1 cup confectioners sugar
  • 1 Tbsp. butter, melted and cooled
  • 1/2 tsp. vanilla extract
  • 1/8 tsp. salt
  • 2-3 Tbsp. milk (enough to make a drizzle consisitency)

Directions

Pop Tart Directions:

  1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees.
  2. Butter a large baking sheet.
  3. Place one of the pie dough circles onto the pan.
  4. Spread a thin layer of the jam on top of the dough, keeping it 1″ from the edge.
  5. Using your finger or a pastry brush, wet the dough edge completely around the jam with water.
  6. Place the second pie dough on top. Using a fork press down all around the edge sealing the dough together.
  7. Using the same fork, poke holes in the top dough about every 1″ where the jam is, not on the edge.
  8. Bake for about 20 minutes or until the edges turn a light brown. Let cool completely on the pan. Once cool you can serve or frost and then serve.

Frosting Directions:

  1. In a small bowl combine the confectioners sugar, butter, vanilla and salt. Add enough milk to make a drizzle consistency.
  2. Frost the pop tart or drizzle the frosting over the top. This is very sweet when you frost it completely so if you want just a hint of sweet, don’t use all of the frosting and just drizzle it on. Allow the frosting to set then slice and serve.

  1. Fun! I love pie crust baked with just some cinnamon and a little sugar. I’ve seen other recipes where the pie crust is cut in rectangles, like pop tarts but yours looks more fun

  2. Can you believe … I’ve never heard of pop tarts!? I had to google it now and can say with certainty that I’ve never seen it in our shops before. But thanks to you Diane, I can now make my own pop tart (which is most probably much better than those you buy in shops 😄).

    • I have been eating pop tarts since I can remember. Some people put them in the toaster but I like them right out of the box or better yet when I make my own. Thank you and I’m glad you learned a new type of food today.

  3. It looks great, so it must also taste good. Everyone likes strawberries, and I have jam made of cherries 🙂

      • Omg, cooking for children and grown children like husbands can sometimes be a thankless job. Your response was perfect!

      • Hahaha You are so right! I remember when I was a kid my mom made a dessert and it tasted great but looked weird. We all teased her and made fun of it so she took all of our plates and threw the dessert away. We never did that again! 😂

  4. Ramen noodles I have not yet tried, but Pop Tarts I have but it’s been a while since I had them. At least the toaster does not have the laptop sitting on it. I didn’t know you could make them … bet the kids loved these!
