Cream Cheese Frosting
This as a simple but delicious and basic Cream Cheese Frosting. I use it for my Two Ingredient Pumpkin Spice Cake but you can use it on any cake, cookies, muffins etc. There are only four ingredients in this frosting that you probably already have in the house.
Put the butter and cream cheese in a large bowl.
Using a mixer on medium speed, blend to combine.
Add the powdered sugar and vanilla.
Blend on medium speed until smooth and creamy.
Frost and cover the dish with plastic wrap or
foil then store in the refrigerator.
Cream Cheese Frosting
- 1/2 cup butter (1 stick), softened
- 8 oz. cream cheese, softened
- 4 cups powdered sugar (confectioner’s sugar)
- 2 tsp vanilla extract
- In a large bowl cream the butter and the cream cheese with the mixer on medium speed.
- Add the powdered sugar and vanilla mixing until smooth and creamy.
- Frost your favorite cake, muffins, cookies etc. then serve.
- Store, covered, in the refrigerator. Take out 2 hours before serving.
Use 3 1/2 cups powdered sugar if you like the frosting less sweet.

You’re welcome Jonetta, I love easy!❤️
I love cream cheese anything and everything!
Me too, I could even eat it right from the foil! Lol
Looks yummy though I haven’t tasted yet.Thank you very much for sharing.Take care.🌹👍🙏
I hope you get a chance to try it sometime. It goes great with the Pumpkin Spice Cake I posted. Thank you Francis!
I’ve been looking for a quick cream cheese frosting. Love this. Thanks 😊
Enjoy it is so simple.
I like how easy this one is and I could do with some cake right now.
I just finished the last of the cake tonight. It was so good and I am glad I gave so much of it away to family! Lol
Perfect, this goes well with the spice cake I’m making tonight! C
Hahahaha enjoy! Let me know how it turns out Cheryl.
It is such a perfect frosting with pumpkin anything…lol Thanks!
I like cream cheese just by itself, on toast, so if I added those other ingredience, I don’t think I would use too much. Four cups powdered sugar?? Too much.
Me too! I can eat it just with a spoon. Keep in mind though this frosted a 9” x 13” cake. You can easily cut the powdered sugar to find the taste you would want. That’s what’s nice about this recipe, add some and taste test then add more and taste etc. until you get what you like. Thanks for stopping by Stephen!
I love cream cheese icing! I make a Spanish Bar Cake that calls for it. It’s delicious!
Now I would love to see that recipe! I have never heard of Spanish Bar Cake.
I’ll send them to you! It was a cake that a Canadian grocery store sold years ago. I have two different ones.
Thank you SO much!!!!!! I look forward to it! ❤️
Perfection! even to eat alone… shhhh don’t tell anyone I said that.. lol. I might loose my job. hahahah
Hahaha I totally agree Cindy! 💕
LOL! 🤣🤣🤣 ❤️
If I made that, it wouldn’t make it on top of the cake. I’d finish it in the bowl! 😋
Hahaha I know what you mean. What is it about cream cheese that is so good? Then put it in frosting and you can’t stop eating it!
I LOVE YOU GRANDMA! This was so good. Keep doing what you love ♥️
Awww thank you sweetie!💕💕💕
Try this you will want more I promise
Yes you will! Lol
You have the best recipes, Diane!
Great basic recipe. I cringe when my husband buys a can of cream cheese frosting. It tastes like…sugar. I know the real thing is easy and so much better!
Thank you and I agree it is so easy to make and so much better.
Greetings, Diane….In a complicated world, this recipe and the one before it make life simple and delicious…thanks again
Thank you Jackie! They taste great together.
The frosting looks good and the pictures below the blog of the one-bowl chocolate frosting and the pumpkin roll with the cream cheese frosting look delicious too!
This sounds so easy and so delicious! I’ve got to try it.
Thank you, it is enjoy!
Yum! I’ve always wanted to find a good frosting recipe for my red velvet cupcakes! Thank-you
You’re very welcome Saania! Thanks!
FOUR cups of sugar? EGADS! No wonder I love it! I LOVE cream cheese frosting!!! YUM! I love it on carrot cake, but your pumpkin cake looks perfect for it, too . . . 🙂
That’s why I said to add a few cups and taste it, that way it can be made to anyone’s taste. It was strange because the longer it sat the less sweet it tasted, like the cream cheese flavor came out the longer it sat. Keep in mind though, it is confectioners sugar not granulated.
Yeah . . . . so much sugar . . . . and so yummy. I love it!
I want to bathe in it…oh no, did I say that out loud?!?!? 🙂
Hahahaha Love the way you think Tierney!
Just used this to frost a carrot cake for dessert tonight…and it is SO yummy! <3 Definitely would rate 5 stars. Do you mind if I share it on my blog? 🙂
That is so kind of you! Yes you can share it. Thank you for letting me know how you liked it.
