Baked Mozzarella Sticks
A delicious Mozzarella Stick that is rolled in flour, egg and seasoned bread crumbs. These are made with string cheese and they are baked, not fried. They are frozen before baking so you can take out whatever amount you want and bake the rest another time. Serve these with marinara sauce, ranch dressing or like we do pizza sauce.
Ingredients
Remove the string cheese from
the plastic and cut in half. Freeze
until completely frozen, 30 – 60 minutes.
In a small bowl toss the
bread crumbs and seasonings.
In a small bowl add the flour.
In a small bowl whisk the egg with a fork.
Spray a large baking sheet with cooking oil.
Roll the frozen cheese into the
flour, shaking off any excess.
Then roll it into the whisked egg.
Quickly place into the breadcrumbs
and roll until completely coated.
Place the cheese sticks onto the sprayed
baking sheet keeping them apart. Place
the baking sheet into the freezer until the
cheese is completely frozen. I didn’t let mine
freeze solid enough which resulted in taking
them out of the oven sooner and they didn’t get
as golden brown but they sure were good!
Bake in a preheated 400 degree oven for
4 – 5 minutes then turn them over. Bake
another 4 – 5 minutes watching them
carefully. If the cheese starts to ooze out take
them out. Serve immediately with marinara
sauce, ranch dressing or pizza sauce.

Yummy!
Thank you!
My pleasure π
I’ve have recently discovered the versatility of these sticks. Four new baby pizza pans arrived yesterday, so of course I made pizza last night, but used fresh mozzarella on them. But these little sticks make great ad hoc pizza or spaghetti topping by just slicing them thin when I am too lazy to grate up some mozzarella for the occasion. Sometimes I slice them the long way for use on a sausage and pepper sandwich.
I have some already-made Italian breadcrumbs, so it looks like I will be copying your recipe very soon for these delicious-looking cheese sticks! ;->
Virtual hugs,
Judie
There you go again….more inspiration Judie! This is the first time I have use string cheese for anything but eating them plain!!! Now you have my wheels turning…again! Thank youβ€
I have a tradition on New Year’s Eve that includes Mozzarella sticks. I’ve always bought them, and I’m now wondering why I’ve never thought to bake them myself! Thanks so much for this recipe. Tucking this one away for future use. π
Great! Make them ahead of time and keep them frozen then just bake. Have a wonderful day Christine!
Yum!!!
Thank you Tierney!
Oh these look so good! I am not going to say that I am making them on a certain day this time…but these are on the list for sure!!!
What I like is you can make them and once they are frozen put them in a freezer container and bake whenever and how ever many you want. They really tasted great Carla. Thank you!
Ohmygosh yes!!!!! I need this!!! And I like that I can bake up as many as I want instead of a huge batch where half will be thrown out.
Do you have a favorite marinara sauce?
That’s what I like about them too!! No I am not a lover of marinara sauce, we use pizza sauce.
Iβve tried making mozzarella sticks beforeβmy string cheese always disappears (or melts?!)
They are yummy though!
They have to be frozen solid before you bake them. I made them for my husband and he was leaving for work so I didn’t get them as frozen as they should have been. I had to remove them from the oven a little early but they still tasted great and were completely melted.
They look delicious. What are you trying to do, make me run back to Florida?
lol
Hahaha never!
Looks so good. Had to save this one. π
They had a wonderful flavor. We only baked what we wanted and put the frozen uncooked leftovers in a freezer container for a simple snack on another day.

They turned out so good Linda. I don’t usually like cheese sticks but I love the string cheese so it was a huge hit for both of us. Thanks Linda!
That sounds delicious Diane – I used to eat the cheese sticks but stopped as they were so salty, but these sounded really good.
I love mozzarella sticks, but just get them (occasionally) when I am eating out. I’m printing this out so I can enjoy them at home more often. Thanks for sharing!
