Old fashioned Bread Pudding just like Grandma use to make. Bread pudding has been around for centuries. Way back when it was considered a poor mans pudding. They would make it by using up their stale bread which is exactly what I did! Bread Pudding can be eaten with or without the sauce on top. We ate it right out of the oven while it was still hot and it tasted absolutely delicious!

  1. I tried bread pudding for the first time just last year. I couldn’t believe what I had been missing. This recipe’s going in my “to make” pile. Thanks!

  2. You will not believe it but I made a bread and butter loaf with fresh cream and raisins last evening.Yes about a 1000 year old recipe I used from time of Norman conquest 1066. Ill try yours next time stale bread is available.

  3. Always a favorite when we were growing up. Mom would take stale bread and tuck it in the freezer until she had enough to make the pudding. She usually made hers with raisins, and often added orange zest. Yum!

  4. Hi Diane, I changed the name of my blog to The Senior Weaver… I’m throwing myself into my weaving and it’s so healing! I love bread pudding. We need to make some. Mary

  5. Bread pudding is not a thing of the past. 🙂 One of my friends makes it regularly but not this type of recipe. I don’t think she uses any eggs and there is quite a bit of mixed spice, a nice version also. When I make it, I use milk, eggs, some sugar, raisins, chocolate chips, and it must have nutmeg on the top. However I rarely have stale bread so rarely make bread pudding.

  6. I love bread pudding. I made a pumpkin one with a bourbon sauce last year, it was wonderful, but the sauce was a bit powerful, probably won’t use the sauce next time. Off to check out your recipe.
