Microwave “Bird in the Nest” Toast
I have made this Microwave “Bird in the Nest” Toast for years! Kids love to cook and this way they don’t have to use the stove to cook the egg. The toast can be made ahead of time as it will warm up in the microwave. Make the toast and let the kids go at it!
These are not just for kids! They make for a great breakfast for the young at heart too as I just ate one yesterday. Save the section of bread you cut out in the middle and make mini toasted and crustless sandwiches for lunch.

Yahya thank- you for the awesome idea 😍👏🏻
You’re welcome! They are fun to make!
I forgot about these
Aren’t they good!
This looks great, I think my son will love this – perfect for him to make a snack while he’s away at Uni.
Oh it would be perfect for him there! Thanks!
My husband used to make this all the time, but I never even thought to put it in the microwave!
What a great idea!
Thank you Valerie! I learned this from the recipe book from the first microwave I ever bought…..back in the late 70’s!
Toast looks awesome tasty.
Thank you so much!
I make this a lot but never knew it had a name…it is one of my favorite breakfasts. Hugs
Somebody else said they called it bullseye. 💕
Another awesome recipe!
Aw you are so kind Noreen! Thank you!
Thank you!
Looks great. Decades before the household microwave, I lived in am orphanage farm-home with 22 boys. Being small for my age, I was the cook until I had my growth spurt. I would fry up dozens of what we called “bulls-eyes” on a big cast iron grill for the hungry lot of boys coming in from the barn.
Wow I love the name! I bet you are a great cook now!
The grandkids have a ball every mealtime at your house Diane. 🙂
Hahaha oh no-no-no! There is plenty they don’t like! Neither one liked the taco pie and it was delicious!
I’d have thought they would love the taco pie –
I thought all kids liked tacos?
They said it was too spicy. I used medium salsa..lol
That’s the best part of tacos – that they are spicy, but I would only use medium salsa too – I don’t want to have fire coming out of my ears!
They eat that crap from Taco Bell! I even bribed them with ice cream to cool down their mouth if they ate it….no go!
“They eat that crap from Taco Bell!” … I am laughing at this line … typical kids, not that I have ever had kids, or grandkids and I didn’t get away with anything when I was a kid! If I didn’t eat my dinner, I got no dessert! 🙂
Neither did they! And nothing to eat until the next day!
My parents were really strict with me … my grandmother would sneak me hard candy – I wasn’t allowed to have any candy growing up, no pop either – just milk or juice, and, as a result, I don’t drink pop to this day.
And look at how wonderful you turned out! I tell the grandkids this is not a restaurant….lol
Thank you Diane – that’s nice of you to say that and one time, you’ll crack up at this … my parents had friends that were a little younger than them, and I was still a teenager and they would come to our house for dinner. They asked my mom and dad if they had a child, if she could raise it til it was a teenager. My mom said “you’re kidding, right?” They were not kidding! I should tell that story in a blog post, but I would sound conceited if I did so, although it was my parents – very strict upbringing.
If more parents were like that today we wouldn’t have the shootings and horrible things going on in this world.
That’s very true – and we have a lot of kids that run away … they get in a fight with their parents and just take off. For days, weeks at a time. If I had done that, I’d have been disowned. I had no siblings either … so I could not say “he/she got to do that” … my parents were strict when I was young and a teenager.
I live for anything easy to make and is yummy. Way to steal my heart (and tummy!) lol
Aw thank you! 💖
💕💕💕
Oh I love this!
Simple, delicious and only one plate! I hate dishes…lol Thanks!
I would love this!
It is so easy and no messy pans!
I had no idea this was possible?!?! I am amazed & I think my life was just changed!
Just make sure you poke the top of the egg with a toothpick so the egg doesn’t explode. You will think the yoke will run out but it doesn’t. Then adjust your time to how well done you want the egg yolk to be.
Thank you for the tips!! DJ will love this too
I love to do my “birds nests” on my cast iron griddle. Gets the edges nice and toasty. 😉
Everything is great in cast iron…lol I bet they cook perfectly. I need a griddle! I have about every size and kind of cast iron pan and no griddle!
Things really are better with cast iron!! Lol!! Yes, you do need a griddle!! As much as you use cast iron I find it amazing that you don’t have one already! Btw over on my Instagram I just posted my handwritten recipe for nachos on the cast iron griddle – along with a picture of real-life nachos. I use a small skillet sometimes for nachos too. 😉 https://www.instagram.com/artistclancy/
Oh do those nachos look great! I followed you on Instagram.
Yippee! Thanks for following me! I’ll follow you right back… 😉
My pleasure and thank you too!
Love the idea . Do find time for my post on cooking with my kids https://sunniesmybunnies.wordpress.com/2018/02/27/15-reasons-on-why-you-should-cook-with-your-kids/ 🌼

I forgot this recipe, thanks Diane!
You’re welcome Lilly!
