Old Fashioned Banana Bread
Do you remember your Grandma’s Banana Bread? Not too sweet, that wonderful banana flavor, a golden crust around the edge and then covered in butter? Well that is what this recipe is because it has been around forever! Add some chopped nuts for even more flavor and enjoy!
Ingredients
In small bowl, whisk together the flour,
baking powder, baking soda and salt.
In a large bowl and using a mixer,
beat the shortening until creamy.
Gradually add the sugar,
beating after each addition.
Add the eggs.
Using a mixer, beat eggs into the
sugar mixture until light and creamy.
Add the flour, bananas and nuts (optional)
to the egg mixture.
Mix by hand until combined.
Grease a bread pan generously with shortening.
Pour the batter into the greased pan.
Bake in a preheated 350 degree oven for
50-60 minutes or until a toothpick inserted
in the middle comes out clean.
Remove from the pan immediately
and cool on a cooling rack.
Slice and serve.

Thanks! You could make this one!
Oh I will as soon as my exams are over!
MMMM! THAT sounds yummy will give it a try soon. Lost all grandparents both sides of family before I was born. War did not help. So Ill wade through this never having tasted banana bread ever. Ate green babanas hard and lovely in the tropics straight from tree.Nip off both ends about half inch as that is the place the worm lives. It is in most sold bananas I got used to this in my young days as our servants would chop off both ends which looked silly in a fruit bowl.We soon were show what that worm can do to those children who took no notice. Blindness and worse. I never eat a banana even now without doing this. Doctors say the worm is dead in transit but who wants to even try when precaution saves lives.
Oh my gosh I never heard of this worm. I think I would be a little paranoid after that. However, your banana needs to be very, very ripe for the best bread, with the peel starting to turn black and the banana should be able to squish easily with a spoon. If you like bananas you will thoroughly enjoy this bread. It’s not real sweet and excellent with butter. Very easy to make so enjoy and let me know what you think.
Yum-yum! I love banana bread!
Ewww….I have not heard of the worm before either.
LOL I don’t think I would have eaten them back then! Thanks Robin!
Me neither!
indeed dear friend I will be happy to tell you .May be end of next week as here apple harvest is flooding us out when chicks have arrived again with sitter mothers. All go now selling pairs at laying stage to our pre order customers. No time to cook or bake this week lived on porridge and late night dinners heated up. Car for clutch change and service at 100k miles TDI and my other car used only twice this month being summer harvest of most fruit and veg. Plumbs gathered this morning gave us sixteen sacks full from one tree.We can preserve in compot and wines but will still have to give lots away to farm neighbours over the valley. Customers from Holland for hens may like a bag full too. Its all go here so will come back to you later. Kev
Wow you are one busy person! I am jealous with all the produce! Enjoy but don’t work too hard!

Hard to bead a good banana bread!
Thank you so much Javy Dreamer!
And a little peanut butter slathered on as well.
OMG never thought of that and the way I love peanut butter…yum!
Yup, I love peanut butter too and peanut butter and banana sandwiches. My mom used to make banana bread a lot as it seemed the bananas would ripen too fast and I can remember having that for breakfast sometimes … yum.
Thank you it is hard work now but winter brings its own reward.Lazy days in front of big roaring log fires and harvest wines with dinners. Looking through seed books and designing last piece of gardens. Winter can be hard here after summers of real magic. It is my desire to make a garden so vast in every detail English in a foreign corner of the world it is still England to me. The gardens are Edwardian times lingering in ancient Rome. My intent is to have a holiday flat upstairs with viewing balcony for guests. Not only my gardens then but for them too to be happy on vacation. Lots still to do for perfection but its not that far off now. Once all is done ,then what do for rest of the years. So build a room for guests bed rooms kitchen lounge bathroom sort of thing looking out over 50 odd miles of valley and taking in gardens and forests high enough to see the coast and Sweden from their vantage point. That for next year started floors already. But want stone steps outside so to give private entrance to flat.. At 67 it keeps me actively interested and besides I can turn my hand to anything.
You are unbelievable! Where on earth do you find the energy? I am exhausted just reading that. What an amazing vacation stay that will be for tourists! I would love to see your gardens. I bet they are gorgeous! You should do a post of them.
My grandmother I remember COULD NOT COOK–so it is my wife’s banana bread I use as a marker. Delicious (hers and what you pictured).
Kudos to your wife! You’re a lucky man! Thanks!
