Welcome to the 30’s, 40’s, and 50’s when everything was done natural way. Yummy.
I don’t think there were microwaves then…hahaha They cooked in oil on top of the stove I believe.
I do the same except in a paper bag (doubled lunch sack for a small batch). I fold the top down once or twice and “stitch” it closed with a bamboo skewer. You are right about monitoring it closely as it will catch on fire!
That’s why I like the glass bowl and plate. Luckily I have never burned mine.
I’m always looking for ways to avoid doing dishes. With my short attention span I would likely burn the popcorn in a glass bowl too! Unless I pull up a chair in front of the microwave something is bound to distract me at the critical moment.
Hahaha I know what you mean!
This is how I do it to!
These home-made popcorn would definitely make my movie viewing experience at home more enjoyable !! 🙂
Looks tasty
Thanks!
Wow..I love ❤️ popcorn 🍿
Me too! A few years ago I sent for little jars of different toppings like salt & vinager, cheddar cheese etc. You just sprinkle it on and wow!
Good idea, thank you for stopping by 👍😊
Oh Wow, I’m Never Buying Packaged Microwave Popcorn Again
Me too Shinavy!
Ah! I did not know you could do this! I thought you had to have a special device 🙂
I thought you would need some sort of liquid but there is liquid inside each kernel that causes it to pop.
I used to do it on the stove in a saucepan. The sound it made hitting the lid was a real treat for the children.
When I was a kid my mom bought Jiffy Pop. It was in an aluminum pan with a twisted foil top. As it heated up the foil untwisted and expanded with the popcorn popping.
great idea –
Thanks!
I’m going to try this! Thank you!
I will never use the bags again!
Thanks for this share Diane really nice!
You’re welcome! 😀
I bought a whirley-pop maker and it is THE BEST!
Don’t you just love gadgets!!! I have a basement full of them…lol
Yummy! Love me some good old fashioned popcorn! We pop it in our cooking pots here on de islands! 🙂 God bless you Diane! Xxoo
Thanks Tammy and have a great weekend!
You’re welcome much!!! 🙂 thanks much you too!
Wow! Thanks! Can’t wait to tell my husband and son about this!
I couldn’t believe all the moisture on the the bottom of the plate. It’s crazy how much moisture is in just one kernel! But then again, that is what cause the kernel to pop.
Great to hear! I’ve thought about this but never gave it a try and I have one of those air poppers which does take up space on my cabinet!!! I look forward to giving this a whirl.
It tastes just like air popped and you aleady use a bowl with that so you only need a plate!
I always learn when I visit!
Aw…thanks that is the reason I love doing this!
I always learn when I visit. One the finest blogsites!
OMG thank you ASH! I only hope to keep it going as long as yours! You’re amazing!
I have been thinking of a way to preserve my popcorn. I package it here in Nigeria and supply but it does not last for more than two weeks. Please can you help me with a way of preserving my popped popcorn to increase the shelf life?
I preserve my popcorn by putting the kernels in my freezer. It lasts a very long time there but as I said it is the kernels. Popped popcorn is meant to be eaten within a week but will last two weeks if stored in an airtight container as you know. I have read where you can store popped popcorn in a sealed bag and placed in the freezer as well to keep it fresh. They stated it doesn’t actually freeze but stays fresh longer. Give it a try and I hope this helps.
This is just great!
Isn’t it! I can’t tell you how much money I wasted on the bags! Thanks Jonetta!
I had no idea. thanks for sharing this.
You’re welcome!
Wow, can’t believe I never thought of trying this, thanks!
You’re welcome! It tastes just like it came from the air popper.
That’s all microwave popcorn is? I never knew that.
Yes that’s it! There is a small drop of water inside every kernel that gets so hot it causes steam and it causes the corn to explode making the popcorn.
Now instead of oil, I can use real salt and butter.
Yes I like the way you think! I actually use I Can’t Believe It’s Not Butter spray. It is salty and buttery but I use A LOT! hahaha
Hahahahaha, does that defeat the purpose? LOL
Nope zero calories! I love it on my veggies too.
Wow! That simple? Who knew? Well, you of course!
Hahaha and now you too! Thanks!
We’ve just started to do the same but we put a quarter cup of popcorn in a lunch bag, fold it over and microwave it for the same amount of time as you do. It really is good! The spray sounds like a great idea, we’ll try that next time.- Neek
Doesn’t it make the best popcorn? Make sure you watch the paper bags carefully, they can catch on fire. Thanks for your comment!
Fire? Yikes, yes, we will watch for that, Thanks!
Yes a friend of mine ruined their microwave that way.
Whaaat?! I had no idea. Thanks for sharing your knowledge with us!!
You’re welcome!
