Slow Cooker Applesauce

Our apple trees have exploded with apples this year. One way I use them up is to make Slow Cooker Applesauce. All I do is put everything in the slow cooker and forget it, it makes itself.

I made this batch with cinnamon, cloves and allspice for a nice fall flavor and dark color (the longer you leave it in the slow cooker the darker the color will get). The flavor was fabulous and the smell in the house was amazing! You can add whatever spices you want or none at all.

Applesauce can be canned, frozen or put in the refrigerator to eat. You can cook the apples down completely as I did, or cook it for a shorter time leaving pieces of apple intact. I sometimes use my immersion hand-held blender to make it smooth. This can be done in a regular blender too.

Wash and peel the apples slicing around the core.

Mix all of the ingredients into the slow

cooker and stir coating all of the apples.

Cook on high for 3-4 hours or low for 6-8 hours.

Slow Cooker Applesauce

  • 15 medium apples
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/2 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp ground cloves
  • 1/4 tsp ground allspice
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1 Tbsp. lemon juice

  1. Peel, core and cut apples into thin slices, set side.
  2. In the slow cooker, mix the rest of the ingredients. Add sliced apples and stir coating all of the apples.
  3. Cook covered on low for 3-4 hours on high or 6-8 hours on low. I prefer cooking on low.
  4. Let cool and either freeze, can or store covered in the refrigerator.

  1. I’m going to try this, usually I just cook on the top of the stove but then I always have to be there! We just went to Campbells Orchards yesterday to get tons of apples.
