Did You Know – Refrigerating Citrus Fruit

Do you know how to store citrus fruits for maximum freshness?
Citrus won’t go soft and dark like bananas or bruise like apples and pears. But if you eat only one or two a day like we do and buy them by the bag full they can spoil pretty quickly.
Instead of leaving your citrus out on the counter, place them in nonporous bags and store them in the refrigerator. The bags will protect them from the dry refrigerator air, and they’ll stay fresh and juicy for longer.

Tis the season! This is my first picking, it’s going to be a productive year.

Our asparagus has one short stalk less than an inch high so far. It’s good to hear yours is growing good
It shot up in less than a week. Thank you
Good picking
Thank you Derrick! I could hardly move after all that. I need to get my summer muscles back!
Nice crop of asparagus you’ve got there. That’s a great tip about using those bags to store fruit in the fridge, helps stop them spoiling.
That was a huge first pick this year. I get so much asparagus but as the next month goes by the stem starts to get thick on a lot of them. These as so old, I planted them over 30 years ago and they keep reproducing. Thank you Paul!
Thank you for reposting Ned!
I did not know this. Thanks, Diane! When we travel, we keep oranges on the counter – due to our small refrigerator. But – as the week progresses and our frig empties out, there is room. I’ll keep this in mind when we travel again.
You’re very welcome Betty!
A good tip!
Thank you Dorothy!
Thanks for the tip!
You are very welcome!
That sounds logical. But I can never keep citrus fruit more than 2 or 3 days.
We eat 2 a day and get a big bag but only when they are in season and taste good. It seems by the end of January here in Ohio, they start getting very tart. Thanks for stopping by Stephen!
Your asparagus haul is a gold mine. Your garden is going to be saving you a lot on your grocery bill this summer, and provide you with fresh, delicious nutrition!
I will be picking asparagus until the first week in June. That way they grow tall and reseed. I know it’s hard to believe but as much as I love asparagus, by June I have had my fill! Next, rhubarb needs picking. Thank you Linda!
A good tip! I have to buy lemons and limes one by one as I don’t use a lot of them. But it’s cheaper to buy them in bulk!
They were charging $1.00 an orange! I am having trouble excepting prices today.
This was a good tip Diane since everything is so expensive these days. Orange juice is even higher and in demand due to storms/damage to citrus groves so best to get your citrus from the fruit if it’s easy to find. After I switched to V-8, I haven’t bought OJ or the fruit, but I do buy canned pineapple occasionally. Already for your asparagus harvest – amazing!
I drink a gallon of OJ a week! We just keep ours in the bag it comes in but sometimes it’s a nylon mesh. Thank you Linda!
That’s a lot of Vitamin C Diane – you will stay cold-free with all that OJ!
I hope so! Lol
This is a good tip! thx
Thank you and you are so welcome!
Hi. Thanks for the storage tip. Your asparagus looks real good. What other vegetables or fruits do you grow?
