Sixth Kitchen Remodel Update

Did you hear me yelling with excitement on Monday? My replacement cabinets came and they were bubble wrapped and perfect! They should have used bubble wrap the first time.

In the picture above and below you can see where the contractor installed all of the upper cabinets.

The island is ready for the granite to be installed on Tuesday. I had to tell them not to install it when they were here the first time due to a damaged cabinet that had to be replaced.

I can’t wait until the lights over the island are installed so I can start back at posting new recipes. Thank you for being patient with me, it’s been frustrating not being able to post many new recipes.

Today the contractor will finish the microwave and put the doors on the cabinet above the microwave. He’s hoping to install all the handles too!

As you see, we are finally moving forward. The contractor had so much progress yesterday and I can’t wait to see what gets finished today. Check back next week, on Friday, for another update.

Have a wonderful weekend!

    • Thank you Carla. My contractor can’t do anymore weekends as he had another job set up, he wasn’t anticipating a 5 week delay with our cabinet replacements. So we will probably just get him a few hours after work when he is available. I feel like this will never end. Lol

      • Oh no. Delays can cause so many problems. At least you can use the kitchen a bit now. You will appreciate it so much when it is finished.

      • Definitely! I was so overwhelmed from the maze and clutter in here that I tore down the extra table in the dining room and put the regular dining room table back in its normal place. We switched the loveseat with the couch so it was easier to get in and out of the living room. Tomorrow when the granite is installed on the island, I will be putting dishes in them just to get them off the table! He still has a lot to do in the kitchen so I can’t put dishes in the regular cabinets for a while. It is super nice using all of the appliances and to have water for sure!

  1. Looking good. Did you work with a designer or architect to design your new kitchen?

I have an Uber meticulous friend and he designedand remodeled his kitchen. He talked of figuring out what size cabinets he’d need, where, figuring the contents for each, how he moves when he cooks, convenience, on and on. It sounded complicated.

    • It took me a year to figure out what I wanted. Then we went to the cabinet place and told her what we wanted and picked out the cabinets. So yes I designed what I wanted then the design lady entered it into the computer and made suggestions. I’m happy it’s getting closer to being finished but will never do this again. Even though the contractor is doing a great job, I wish he was done.

    • Thank you so much Linda. I probably will update much less as my contractor doesn’t have much time now. But at least my kitchen is finally fully functional. I just have to get all the boxes unpacked and put away.

  2. That’s great news Diane. You surely deserved to have it work out right this time after the damage the last time! The kitchen looks so light and airy with the big window and light-colored cabinets. I’ll look forward to next week’s update

  3. Can’t wait! I have been living this vicariously. I still have no incentive to re-do our kitchen, though!

    • I have no regrets and love the kitchen remodel, however, this extra 5 weeks from the bad cabinets has put so much stress on us both. Everything the contractor does now makes us so excited to see the final results.

  4. So that’s what that loud screaming I heard was?

It looks great, Diane. Very happy for you as you near the finish line. I can’t wait to see the final results.

I bet you have a wonderful lineup for meals ready to made in this dream kitchen.
