Sautéed Brussels Sprouts With Bacon

If you love Brussels Sprouts baked in the oven, then you need to try this recipe cooked in a skillet, even my husband love it! Brussels Sprouts, sliced red onion and bacon sautéed in a skillet on the stovetop and splashed with balsamic or red wine vinegar.

Rinse the Brussels sprouts and pat dry. Remove the outer leaves then cut off a third of the stem end.

Separate the leaves with your fingers and tear each leaf in half. This seems like a lot of work but the larger torn leaves are worth it compared to chopping them small.

Cut the bacon into 1/2” pieces and fry until golden brown. (You only need 3 pieces of bacon, but I cooked all of the pack for another use.)

Remove the bacon, leaving the fat in the skillet, and put the bacon on a paper towel covered plate.

Cook the onion until tender. Remove the cooked onion, leaving the bacon fat in the skillet, then set aside.

Add the brussels sprouts to the hot skillet and cook them until they are about halfway soft. Then add the onion, bacon, vinegar, salt and pepper tossing well.

Continue to cook until the brussels sprouts are soft and everything is hot.

Place into bowls then serve.

I love it! I never tried by separating the leaves though, I always just cut it in half 😆 but in this way I think is even more flavorful!
It lost the bitterness because I discarded the core and just used the leaves. Thank you!

I love brussel sprouts! Bacon is the best way to cook them with. I had to cut it out unfortunately as my cholesterol is high. 😆 So I air fry just the sprouts with some olive oil, salt, pepper and garlic powder. Still yum but not as yum as they would be with bacon!
Have you ever tried them with balsamic vinegar? I think they are great anyway they are cooked, even the air fryer!
No I have. I don’t cook with balsamic vinegar often but do have a bottle in the pantry. May bring it out to try this. I love brussel sprouts.

Bacon and onions turn Brussels sprouts into a delicacy. I had never noticed that it is Brussels (like the city) not Brussel sprouts as I have been calling it all my life. Actually all my adult life. I don’t remember my mother ever cooking them. Perhaps they are more popular in the North???
I did the same thing until I started blogging, it was always Brussel! Yes they are popular in the North, they grow great in our gardens too.
I’ve never been a Brussels Sprouts lover, but maybe with bacon, I could be enticed to like them. 🙂
I think you learn to like them. I hated them as a kid then Terry grew a few plants in the garden so I tried different ways to fix them until I liked them. I didn’t use the bitter core in this recipe which makes this my favorite way to eat them, well that and the bacon! 🤣
Yes, I always found them bitter. My mom made them for my father who liked them, so she said “you can have Linda and my portion too!” Maybe if my mom would have used bacon – hmm.

The only way we cook our Brussels sprouts are in the oven! But I’m definitely going to try this recipe of yours, thanks Diane.
The oven has always been my favorite way too until I tried it this way. It is more work and worth it. I left the cores out which eliminated so much of the bitterness and then there is the bacon! 😋
