Pie Iron Pepperoni Pizza
Have you ever cooked with a Pie Iron? Mine is made of cast iron and designed to cook over a fire. We make Pizza Pies and Fruit Pies with ours. You will not believe that the Pizza Pies are made with bread and butter for the crust when you taste them. Add the sauce, cheese, pepperoni and you will have a delicious pizza!!! Great for the people that love to camp or people like us that like making a fire in our backyard but most of all perfect for anyone that loves pizza!
This is our Pie Iron.
It opens up into two pieces.
Heavily butter one side of two
pieces of regular white bread.
Place one piece of bread, buttered side
down, on one side of the pie iron.
Place pizza sauce on top of the bread.
Sprinkle on some shredded cheese.
Top with pepperoni.
Place the other piece of
bread on top, butter side up.
Close the pie iron then scrape off the
excess bread with a knife or it will burn.
Place the pie iron over the flame of the fire.
Make sure you turn over the pie iron cooking both
sides. It won’t take long to cook and you need to check
it frequently by separating the two pie iron pieces.
When the bread is golden brown
on both sides it’s ready to eat. Open the
pie iron and drop the pizza onto a plate.
Slice in half to cool then serve.

Directions
- Heavily butter one side of two pieces of bread. Place one piece of bread, buttered side down, onto the inside of the pie iron.
- Place pizza sauce on the bread, sprinkle on the cheese and top with the pepperoni.
- Place the other piece of bread on top, buttered side up.

- Slice in half then serve.
Looks awesome
Thanks we love them!!!
The fruit pies sound interesting? Any favorites?
Cherry is our favorite with apple in second place! I butter the bread and sprinkle the butter with sugar. Then fill with the pie filling and repeat with the other piece of bread….delicious!
I remember making these as a kid at my grandparents farm. So good and so much fun!
I hope my grandkids remember it as well!!! What wonderful memories!
That’s just cool!
It really is!!!! Thanks for stopping by Efrona!!!
I’ve never heard of a pie iron before. What a great device!
Yes they really are great Linda. They are cast iron.
Looks like an ancient technique😀
Yet so simple and delicious!!! Great for the outdoors people that like to camp. We make them in our backyard fire.
That is very fancy and cool! Perfect for summer. Enjoy!
Thank you we love them and what memories the grandkids will have from them.
Wow.
Thanks!
These look delicious! It reminds me of camping while growing up. Here in Saskatchewan we do this as well and we call them bush pies. My favorite is are the cherry pies 😀 But your pizza one is genius! I must give this a try 🙂
Cherry pie is our favorite as well. We too had those growing up but I don’t ever remember doing pizza. They really tasted great. Thank you Angie!
Thanks so much!
I’ve heard other people talk about pie irons, I’ll have to look into these !
There are SO many things you can make with them.
This looks really good. I have heard of pie irons, but had never seen one until now. Love it!
They are a fun and quick meal or dessert. I butter bread, sprinkle it with sugar and fill it with pie filling….SO GOOD!
Now I need to find me one of those.
Pretty interesting….vw
And very good!!!! Thanks!
End results look so…vw
Great for camping
Oh yes!!!!
This certainly looks awesome.
Thank you they are a lot of fun too!!!
These look like fun to make!
They really are Laci. The grandkids love eating them too…lol
That looks fun and delicious. We used to have a gizmo, not as big as a George Foreman grill but the same principle. You put your hamburger patty in it and it grilled it, cheese and onions and all. It was not a double patty maker, so my mom had two of them so the food came out the same time. The latch on the handles gave out, so you couldn’t keep them shut anymore. This is a good idea … I never go camping though and have no firepit for a fire.
If I had a fireplace I would use it there! lol That gizmo sounds like a wonderful cooker for two people! Thanks Linda!
Oh yes – a fireplace would be fun to use it wouldn’t it. Yes, it was great and we had them for years, easy to clean and just less mess.
That looks so good! I’ve never made anything in a pie iron, but now I want one. I can imagine all the possibilities!
Oh yes there are so many things you can make. The pie iron came with a bunch of recipes. Thanks Michelle!
Great looking pizza.
My only complaint is that the pie iron is should be 4 times that size. 😁
Hahahaha use 4 pie irons!!!!! Seriously though, cast iron is heavy and I wouldn’t want to hold 4 times the weight. But I do like the idea! Lol
This looks fun 🙂 I imagine it’s similar to a grilled cheese, but more pizza flavoured?
Yes that is exactly what it looks like except the edges get sealed so the sauce doesn’t run out.
Thanks for sharing! ❤
