Microwave “Bird In The Nest” Toast
I have made this Microwave “Bird in the Nest” Toast for years! Kids love to cook and this is a way they don’t have to use the stove to cook the egg. The toast can be made ahead of time as it will warm up in the microwave. Make the toast and let the kids go at it!
These are not just for kids! They make for a great breakfast for the young at heart too as I just ate one yesterday. Save the section of bread you cut out in the middle and make mini toasted and crustless sandwiches for lunch.
Ingredients
Toast the bread.
Cut a circle out of the center of the toast with
a cookie cutter or the rim of a drinking glass.
Put 1 Tbsp of butter on a plate.
Microwave just until it is melted.
Quickly dip the toast into the butter getting
butter on all of the bottom of the bread
but leaving enough butter in the
middle for the egg to sit on.
Crack an egg into the hole
with the melted butter.
Using a toothpick, poke 1-2 holes into the
top part only of the yolk. This keeps
the egg from exploding.
Salt and pepper to taste.
Microwave for about 60 seconds on high or
until the egg yolk is cooked the way you like
it. Be careful taking the plate out of the
microwave as the plate will be hot. Enjoy!

- Melt the butter on a plate in the microwave. Quickly dip the bottom of the bread in butter leaving enough butter for the egg to sit in.
- Crack an egg into the hole. Using a toothpick, poke one or two holes into only the top of the yoke.
- Microwave on high for about 60 seconds or until yolk is to your liking. All microwaves cook differently so watch it carefully. Be careful removing the plate from the microwave as it will be hot. Enjoy!

Good one. i once had work in China Hong kong in the 70s sent by firm six weeks. In one eating house I tried birds nest soup as starter. I was assured by one of our staff that it was noodles so fine and not birds nest but it looked the business.Now many years later your recipe brought memories back for me. Yes thank you did ad word ad but my readership is only growing so cant say what it will work out at.
I like making this on the griddle or stove, but this is a way I hadn’t thought of trying. Thanks for the reminder to prick the yolk with a toothpick, though! I definitely am glad I read that instruction.

This is a wonderful idea because the little ones can do it themselves, we’ll give it a try. It’s funny how many names there are for these. In our family, it is Man in the Moon, and others call it Toad in the Hole. There are probably more I haven’t heard!

Hi Chris! It doesn’t get soggy but it isn’t like it came from the toaster. Try to make it like this…instead of melting the butter on the plate, put the toast with the hole on the plate, place half the melted butter in the hole for the egg and then the egg. Maybe it would be more to the way you like it that way. I hope this helps.
