Bananas Foster Ice Cream Sundae 1950’s Recipe

Vanilla ice cream with a simple homemade caramel sauce and bananas made in about 10 minutes. You won’t believe how easy this is to make; your family and guests will thank you!

In a medium nonstick skillet, add the brown sugar and butter over medium low heat, stirring constantly, until the butter melts and is bubbly.
Carefully stir in the water then stirring constantly, cook for 30-45 seconds or until slightly thickened.
Add the rum extract and bananas stirring gently to coat the bananas in the caramel mixture. Cook and stir 30 seconds more to warm the banana’s then remove from the heat.
Place ice cream into individual bowls.

Spoon banana mixture evenly over the ice cream and garnish with a wafer type cookie, optional.

Then serve.

Thank you!
Easily made vegan
I need to learn more about vegan and vegetarian recipes.
Oh so lovely!
Thank you Dorothy
I never thought of cooking the bananas, but then again, I’m not so savy in the kitchen. Hugs, C
They didn’t really cook, just warmed up and they were delicious that way. Have a great day Cheryl.
Very fancy Diane – I have never had Bananas Foster that I recall unless it was one of the cruise ship desserts like Baked Alaska.
Thank you Linda! This was my first time eating it too. This Nostalgia Cookbook has the best simple recipes.
A wonderful way to enjoy your bananas instead of just peeling and eating them like Punch would. 🙂
YUMMMMMM
Thank you!
This is a treat we look forward to at least once when we visit my in laws in the summer. A treat from my mother in law. I can see this being a similar treat for your family. 😋
How special to have it at your in laws every year. I like this recipe because it makes 2 smaller sizes or 1 full size sundae, yep I opted for the full size. 😂
This is great Diane! I love the “old timey” dessert recipes.
So far all of the recipes have tasted really good. Yesterday I made blueberry pie. It has no actual sugar added to it but it does have some blueberry preserves. My homegrown blueberries are very tart making it necessary for me to sprinkle sugar on top. Lol
What an easy way to “fancy up” ice cream!
It really was fancy but it made me crave a banana split with the ice cream, bananas and caramel. Thank you Linda!
Melt in your mouth goodness!
Thank you Mary!
