Easy Homemade Beef Au Jus Gravy Mix

You won’t ever buy Au Jus Gravy again when you see how easy it is to make and store. One recipe (4½ tsp) of the dry gravy mix makes 2 cups of gravy which is equal to one packet of store bought gravy. There will be plenty of dry mix left over for more dinners.

MAKE THE DRY MIX:

  • 4 Tbsp beef bouillon powder

  • 4 tsp onion powder

  • 2 tsp dried parsley

  • 1/4 tsp pepper

  • 1/4 tsp garlic powder

  • 4 Tbsp cornstarch

  1. Add all of the dry ingredients above to a small food processor or blender.

  2. Process until thoroughly combined.

  3. Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 4 months.

MAKE THE GRAVY:

  1. In a saucepan add 4½ tsp of the dry mix above (same as 1 oz dry packet of store bought).

  2. Whisk in 2 cups of water until combined.

  3. Whisking constantly, bring to a boil over medium heat.

  4. Once boiling, reduce to a low heat, whisk and simmer for 3-5 minutes until it starts to thicken slightly then serve.

Keep in mind that Au Jus Gravy is much thinner than beef gravy. It can be used for French dip sandwiches, roast beef and prime rib, grilled lamb, veal, chicken, pork chops, hamburger steak, shepherd’s pie, mashed potatoes, rice or noodles, roasted veggies, soup and stews, crusty bread or potatoes.

  1. I can have gravy with anything, including a straw! But the favourite is to have it with mashed potatoes and a nice prime rib. Thanks for this recipe. It looks so good!
