      • I used to like the Dole spinach salad kits and made up a dinner salad once a week. They had a white vinegarette dressing and parmesan cheese and cherries. It was my treat and I always gave a few pieces to my canary, but then Dole had all the listeria concerns in their bagged salads, so I stopped buying them and never went back to them.

      • What a great habit to make a salad once a week as a meal Linda. That dressing sounds amazing! I don’t recall ever seeing these kits but I would love that white vinaigrette dressing!!!

      • I did like doing that Diane and my mom and I started doing it when we had our first canary. We had always eaten iceberg lettuce only and when we got Sugar, the how-to books said no iceberg lettuce as it’s too watery, so we switched to romaine (their suggestion). When it was just me, I would get the kits, then the spinach kit … he liked spinach leaves. I did that with Buddy (my second canary after Sugar passed away). I just hopped onto Dole’s website and I don’t see that kit and they had older images which, when I clicked, it was a dead link. I liked that dressing too and the packet of cheese for on top – maybe romano? It’s been a while. There were many recalls, so that’s why I followed the Food Poisoning Report daily to ensure I didn’t give “us” anything with issues.

      • I wondered if birds can get E. Coli, looked it up and they can! I have always been an iceberg lettuce person. Terry loves Romaine so that’s what is usually in our house.

      • Yes, they can and it will kill them because they are so small. We were not fans of Romaine lettuce but switched for Sugar – we found it bitter compared to iceberg. See what we do for husbands and birds!! 🙂
