  1. About the coffee – coffee beans start to lose flavor and freshness as soon as they are roasted – ground coffee should be used right away for best freshness – In a few culinary articles I have read over the past decade stated –
While there are different views on whether or not coffee should be frozen or refrigerated, the main consideration is that coffee absorbs moisture – and odors, and tastes – from the air around it, since it is hygroscopic – meaning – readily taking up and retaining moisture –

Most home storage containers still let in small amounts of oxygen, which is why food stored a long time in the freezer can suffer freezer burn. Therefore, if you do refrigerate or freeze your beans, be sure to use a truly airtight container.

Also coffee should be stored in a dark container – One article I read said to store whole beans or ground coffee in an opaque (transparent container) airtight container.

    • I agree Linda, I hate it when I find vegetables in the refrigerator that went bad. My new refrigerator is so big that food gets hidden and out of sight out of mind! So I’m trying to keep perishable food up front. I just chopped up and froze poblano peppers and jalapeño peppers. I made two huge baking sheets of the jalapeño poppers already so in the freezer for the rest of them.

      • Yes, or they go mushy like cucumbers. We used to buy the burpless kind and they seemed to go mushy faster. Oh, you will be all set to make treats with those poppers. 🙂

  2. Wow, so many interesting and useful tips here! I never knew about the veggies that grow above ground and can be cooked without a lid … you learn something new every day!
